We always advise folks to wait a month after bloom to divide beardeds. You can keep the rhizomes out of the ground for quite a while if you can't plant right away.
Great bletilla patch, Ursula. I moved my ochracea pot into a sunnier place, turned cold and several spikes shriveled up. Darn. Live and learn!
Thanks guys..I've never known , and since I have such densely planted mixed
beds...there's daffodils and lilies under the iris, perennials shoulder to shoulder.
I didn't want to disturb the next wave of flowers!
Janice, your daylily looks a lot like the one I posted and I love the Agrostemma. What a beauty!
Now for something completely different, an update on Mr. Stinky. I thought there was a faint smell in the air when I went out to water the orchids. Then I noticed the flesh flies starting to gether. It looks like they will bloom one at a time which is probably a good thing. This first one looks ready to go and if you look close you can see a single fly who arrived early for dinner.
This is flower number 2.
Flower number 3 is lagging sightly behind.
And then here comes the little trees.

We spend most of the weekend at our "Extended Garden"/our place in Pennsy. This time I left the telephoto lens on my camera the whole time, since I usually miss something due to the wrong lens. So no pretty vistas this time, just plants and animals, more or less.
We talk our usual walk straight through the woods to check on the various stands of Cypripedium acaule and we were not disappointed, there were quite a few in bud already and a couple of early blooms.
Different types of small Violets, Anemones, Tiarellas are in full gear, Podophyllums are up too. Coltsfoot is now in seed and I always think that Dandelions have to be the most successful flowers on Earth.
It was warm enough to sit comfortably outside and watch the fish ( a good size colony of "Sunnies") jumping and at one point we noticed two pretty Pileated Woodpeckers across the neighbor's trees. The Frogs looked healthy and there was a pretty young Deer.
What a super day! Love those! Great shot of the pileated couple. I can't believe the ladyslippers are blooming there. Memorial Day here. Great shot of the deer but what's she saying?!
