Nice ones. Wonder why Lowes here doesn't have orchids? Guess they think no one in NE grows orchids?

Susan, you can ask them...apparently no one in Greenville grows orchids because I'm the only one that buys them!

Here's a better picture, the colors in real life are a little more vibrant. Thanks for the general id, now I can
look up how to grow it!
I haven't bought all the orchids in Greenville, but since I take care of the plants for the 3 Lowe's here I unpack
them all and then 3 weeks later take the same number that I unpacked to the clearance area or the dumpster. Confused

Disappointed with tiny plants Catt. Chocolate Drop 'Kodama' and Phalaenopsis violacea that came today from Angel Orchids. Just went out and bought a Justaddice phal with 2 spikes for vengeance, then felt bad that I supported this dumb company. An emotional day....

Sorry to hear about your tiny plants. Guess Angel Orchids will go on the don't buy from them list. My justaddice orchid is sending out 2 more stems from the spikes after I cut them back.

Just received a Cymbidium Sunset Barbara from eBay selller orchiddude. I have 2 Cymbidiums now. Hope they will bloom for me.

Also ordered a couple more Paphs. Bel Royal and Song of Love from Carters and Holmes. Has anyone ordered from them?

Carter and Holmes is a reputable company and they hybridize award winners. Do you know how to get cyms to spike? Definitely peloric. The Japanese would love it!

Kathy,
I sent a picture of my new miltassia to sunbulb co and they called me back with an id! He said it is miltassia sheilob.
He spelled it for me, and now I'm wondering if all of the other listings on google are wrong ...shelob...or was the man
from sunbulb confused? Confused

It is Miltassia Shelob ( Shelob with capitalized S)

You don't get a match with Sheilob.

I like the miltassias. that's one I haven't tried. From what I've read of the cyms, they need at least a 15 degree difference between days and night temps to get them to spike. I'm wondering if they will be OK inside until early fall, then go outside at night until the temps get too low? In the winter, my house will be about 55 at night and 70 during the day, but for now it is about 72 all the time. Any other hints on getting them to bloom?

I had mine for years with no blooms till I was told to put them in full sun outside for the summer. In fall, I bring them to my barn porch which has doors I can shut over night on frosty nights but isn't heated. In the day they get north light. I leave them there till November. This is when they spike. So fun! Then in Nov they go into a cool room 50 degrees minimum with north light till the next June 1 and they bloom during the winter. I don't think the light is enough though, since I had some strange shaped flowers on the later ones to bloom.

Well I moved the Cyms outside this morning. Put them on the northeast side to start with. They will get some morning sun there. Can they stay at room temp while they are in bloom, then move to a cooler room?

They should be in cool to spike. But be careful if you move them from spiking in cool to a warm room to enjoy. The flowers typically blast.
