And it had 4 spikes. 2 look like they may have already bloomed, but the other 2 have buds.

In spite of some neg feedback on the Gardenwatchdog, I decided to order 4 phals from orchids.com. They came really fast and I'm happy with the way they look. I checked them all over for bugs, but am going to spray them with incesticide because some people reported a mealy bug problem. All 4 are large and in bloom with a number of buds yet to open.

Congrats and enjoy your new "duckies".

About the #4 - it is very nice but it is not Phal. Baldan's Kaleidoscope 'Golden Treasure'. I would enjoy it anyway! Smiling

Oh yes, you've acquired some lovely ducklings. Baldan's Kaleidoscope is stripey. The one I know has a yellow background with cherry stripes.

Finally acquired the Dendrochilum wenzelii I've been pining for at the auction. Hurray! They had both red and yellow varieties. Since I have Ddc. javierii, which is yellow, I passed on the bidding for the yellow wenzelli. There was a Bulbo. polystictum and a Bulbo. Lovely Elizebeth that I was able to get. I wanted rothschidianum but it didn't happen and the Asc. miniatum was not to be mine. High price paid by a window sill grower 'cause it was small. Rolling my eyes. Can't remember the six or seven from Marble Branch, but I got Den. aberrans, Encyclia tampensis, var. alba, Catt. schilleriana (which I wanted but passed up for Catt aclandiae a few months ago), Den. Andree Millar, Leptotes bicolor, and a Bulbo. pardalatum that I admired and Mark whacked off a piece. There are one or two missing.

Great stuff!!! I've got to replace my Den. aberrans! And my Enc. tamp var alba is not coming back from scale. I never knew there was a yellow wenzelii!!
I got a package of pumice for my Cymbidium goeringii Mebina (orange flowers) and bought a yellow Neofinetia falcata, too, from Asuka orchids. They also sent a bonus (!) Pleurothallis palliolata which I don't have (I have a cross). Here are the 2 plants. Of course I immediately replaced the moss in the neo with coco fiber.

You know, every time I see one of those yellow wenzeliis I can't help but thinking that it looks very much like my javieri. Surely there are minute details which escape my untrained eye. I suppose one needs to see them flowering next to each other and then say - but of course they are so different. Smiling

I posted the wrong name with the photo above. Here is Phal. Baldan's Kaleidoscope 'Golden Treasure' AM/AOS X
(Phal. Hausermann's Candy x Daryl Lockhart)

It is a cross with Phal. Baldan's Kaleidoscope and does have stripes.

Regarding the wenzeliis and javieri...I too was suspicious but when red wenzelli moved in next to yellow javieri, the leaves appear much thinner on wenzelli. The javieri is from Andys. Whether this is a difference in species or culture, I don't know. I'll try to remember to photo it.

Susan, I lost my Baldan's to scale. It was almost always in bloom. After losses from a terrible infestation winter before this, I've got an eagle's eye with the orchids.

I'm always having a constant battle with scale. It comes in waves and it is always worst on the plants the farthest from the fans!
