Bam is quite new. Bloomed in our garden last year. Trying to get photos of MDBs can be difficult. Trying to get to their level is tough on old joints. There are a lot of photos in the iris encyclopedia. Are you looking for the missing ones?

Yes, Lucy. Even if the iris is no longer found I am trying to find photos for the iris database.

Looking just for MDB's right? I don't know that I have any that you don't have pictures of since I have so very few. Welcome to the ones I have though!

I panicked a bit & checked John's intros in the MDBs in the iris encyclopedia. The photos of Howsie, Steppe, Quoge, & Species Suslik. are correct.

I can't wait until it opens. Big Grin

This one grows in a pot. I also grow SDB Early Look and it blooms early every year and freezes. I plan to take it up and pot it this summer. Now if the spring temps dip into the teens when a bloom is about to open I can bring them indoors. Thumbs up

Bonnie - Do you have better luck with your MDB's in pots or in the ground? I think mine struggle in the ground.

Leslie, all of my MDB's are in pots. I have to move them to the cooler parts of the garden during the winter. In the summer I put them in partial shade. This winter we did not have any cold weather until several weeks ago and I don't expect much bloom from them. I do have little bloomstalks on Rosa Brooks, first year in my garden, and on Aurora Sea which blooms every year.

Some of the newer MDB's have all the traits of SDB's except for height. I do expect them to bloom. Smiling Bam does have a bloomstalk forming and it is an MDB but it will bloom when the SDB's do. Smiling

I have not counted my losses until today. It somehow seems not so bad when so many bloom stalks are visible. Smiling

I may have to place an order this year to replace a few I do not want to do without.

Valerie, I lost more of the older ones that I consider 'old friends' than the newer ones. If I lose a newer one two years running, I just consider it not a good grower in my patch. So.... I am going to make a list of what I should like to swap for or buy. Glare

I stand by your logic, Bonnie. When people rave about my "Green Thumb", I tell them I've killed more plants already, than they ever thought about trying to grow. What they see are the "survivors".

The ones that come to mind right now are Trimmed Velvet and Elf Esteem. TV is barely short enough to be in the MDB class. It is a lovely plant and a rebloomer. I have only grown EE for a couple of years but here the blooms and growth habits are those of an SDB so far. It is another one I really like. TV has a bloom stalk so the warm winter did not effect its bloom. Thumbs up
