Does anyone know how to make a banner using a Mac? I tried resizing but I must have done something wrong.

@Monetwwqi — I have a Mac and haven't tried to make a banner yet. I'm getting lost in the instructions just trying to figure out what's new and what's out of date and what other software I might need. If I find out, I'll let you know.

@Monetwwqi and Tx, are you using the Pixlr site? I don't have a Mac, but according to the instructions, Pixlr should work no matter whether one uses a Mac or Windows OS, unless there's something different on your keyboard that the instructions don't account for? Shrug!

I'm going out on a limb here, but typically Macs are the preferred PC for heavy graphic, art, and photo work. My brother was a Graphic Designer, and he preferred using a Mac for his work. If that's the case for you (or someone else in your household), perhaps you already have Photo Shop software with which you could edit photos? I couldn't begin to help you with Photo Shop, but perhaps someone here might chime in. Smiling

PixLR is very easy to use, and should work for both Mac's and PC's.

Thanks for the tips.

Even tho there's a saying that there are no dumb questions this might disprove that. Does one need an actual camera as opposed to a smartphone camera to create a banner?

@tx_flower_child I have made banners with photos from my expensive Canon and Nikon cameras as well as my Smart phone photos.

Cool. Good to know. When I was reading a lot of the posts last night I started to wonder.

@tx_flower_child As long as it is a clear photo that is in focus and is colorful it will have a good chance of being chosen. And also be aware that every banner that is submitted isn't chosen. Good luck and I will be looking forward to seeing some of yours in the future!

I've had photos approved that were from my phone. Some of the others were from the real camera. I don't think it matters as long as it's interesting and clear.

Clear is always a challenge for me. While I might think something is clear, I find that my friends often disagree.

More questions.

I've just reread this entire thread. Since it was started more than a few years ago I've been trying to figure out what, if anything, might have changed.

There's a lot of discussion about allowing for the size of the ATP logo since it will effect the banner. Now that it's not ATP, is there any difference in how much of a banner will be effected?

Seems like early on when PixLR was described that someone said it doesn't need to be downloaded. I assumed that meant the app. But later on I'm reading that people have PixLR on their computers which makes me think it needs to be downloaded. Maybe it's all just terminology. So before I get started with PixLR, do I need to download it? And are there several versions of it?

I think I had another question but I've already forgotten what it was.

Dana — You're correct in thinking that Macs are known for graphics, etc. But once you factor in Operator Error then it doesn't really matter. [Note: I'm only pointing the Operator Error problem at myself.]

This will be an interesting challenge since about a week or so ago I lost the ability to upload pictures from my desktop. I can only upload them from my phone. But I know I'll want to edit using my desktop. Hmm. Whatever, I do like a good experiment.

No need to download special software on a Mac. Just double click on the image (which opens it in Preview), crop if you need to, resize to 150 tall, and save.

I have a Mac & tried this & it's a no go. OS Sierra. I open photos & double click on one & it does not open in preview & there's no way to determine 150 tall on the edit on photos program. I WISH there were. I go to Pixlr & no matter how many times I try, it will not allow me to get exactly 150 tall. 151 yes but then NGA says it's too big. 149 yes, but then NGA says it's not the right size. Sighing!

Ann, step 4, of the Pixlr instructions, says that when 150 can't be achieved, it's acceptable to go to 151. Smiling

I know it does Dana but every time I did it, it would tell me that size was too large. Shrug!
