They make great slingshot ammunition. When I was a little kid, once I collected a Quaker Oats (cardboard) canister full and hid them under my bed. In a few days I started finding little white worms on my bed. I guess I was pretty nature savvy even back then, because it didn't take me long to figure out where they were coming from... inside the acorns. Each infected nut had an exit hole, and the buggers had eaten a hole in the cardboard at the bottom of the canister to get out, and I found a lot more on the floor. (Of course, back then no one had wall to wall carpeting in their bedrooms - thank goodness!)

There are all kinds of things my mom never found out about, thank goodness! Hilarious!

My computer has been so stuffed I had to delay unloading my camera and posting pics. So here I am celebrating some of my June blooms in July Green Grin! .

From Judith Freeman, Big Bang tango lily:

Anthony, it was not only hot, but also very dry from lack of rain. Many areas in the midwestern US in in some state of moderate to severe drought. Looking foward, my concern now is what kind of shape lilies will be in for next years performance.

They will. I've had that happen before, and no problem. They have enough food to get them through now, although I would never cut down good foliage, no matter when.

I bought some lilies this spring labeled Tom Pouce and this is what they look like. I know that hot dry weather can affect the colour of lilies especially pink ones but has anybody ever experienced having ALL traces of any pink pigmentation lost from 3 plants all at once? The yellow midribs are still yellow but there is absolutely no hints of pink anywhere on 7 flowers on 3 plants. I think I got something else. Any ideas?

When it's this hot, yes, I've had lilies with no sign of pink and have one blooming right now. Did you buy your lilies from a reputable source? If so, when you might want to shoot them an email and ask their thoughts.
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

Yes I did buy them from a reputable source and have been in contact by e-mail but will be calling tomorrow. This is entirely new to me, I have had colour break on my pink lilies from the heat but never complete loss of colour before. Granted we have broken more heat records this year than years past.

I've had Giggle Button for several years now. Only once, when it was exceptionally cool, did I see pink on it. It is planted on the east side with only morning sun but against the light-colored house proves to be too much for it.

I spoke to the person I bought them from and she looked at the pictures and identified it as Aubade (she has it in her own garden too) and will send me replacements next spring.

Anthony, different seller different name. The place I bought it from identified it as a variety they had before called Aubade but as all lily growers know the same plant can be called by other names depending on the source so it could also be Devotion.

That has way more yellow than the one I have so I guess mine is still a NOID unless it is Devotion like Anthony suggested. Anybody have a picture of Devotion?

You need to look at the stigma color; I can't see from the dark photo what color it is:

Tom Pouce: grayish yellow green

Aubade: dark purple; this would really differentiate from the other two. Notice it in jmorth's photo.

Devotion: yellowish gray

Since there are many lilies with this white/yellow color scheme (derived from L. auratum) it really should remain an unknown.
