Ursula, I'm headed back to the orchid club on Tuesday and would like to show Vanda sanderiana, var. alba, Bllra Marfitch 'Howard's Dream' AM/AOS and Bulb. fascinator. Any chance you could help me with the parents?

Thanks Jim.
Regarding the Lc Mary Elizabeth Bohn -
http://www.orchid.or.jp/orchid...
So yes, it has a some L. purpurata in its parentage.

Yes, I saw your nice Bulbo in the other thread and I was wondering if you were going to repost it here. Thank you for doing that! I like all those cute doodaflatchies on that bloom! Whistling Smiling

edited to fix link and then found the whole parentage link which I am including.

Jim, regarding the Beallara Marfitch
http://www.sobhaflowers.com/Wh...
Oh brother, it is now called Aliceara Marfitch
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...
and the parent Miltassia Charles M Fitch is now a Bratonia Charles M. Fitch.
I could go backtracking the RHS register, this renaming is really silly. Would the first link I posted be sufficient?

And the other two are happily species, so you are good to go with those.

Yeah, I found the whole Bllra Marfitch parentage.
Room genealogy has more stuff besides Catts. This website is a gold mine. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to give you the direct link. So here it goes:
click on this link
http://www.orchid.or.jp/orchid...
Look at the left side on that page. Under the
Room Genealogy
you will see a bunch of links. Click on the 5. link. Scroll down to to Bllra Marfitch ( past the Oda and Mtssa stuff) and click on that!
You will see the whole parentage lined up. Isn't that neat? Hurray! Hurray!

Jim, regarding the cultural condition for Bulbos, I have my echinolabium in an Ecoweb basket without additional medium, others are either mounted or in pots with a bit of coconut fiber added. Under my conditions I had trouble growing them in bark mix and I know I would have trouble trying them in Sphagnum. But your OC in Florida surely provides another set of condition.

Wonderful, Ursula. I looked for an hour and only became more and more confused. Thank you.

At all costs, I will guard the doodaflatchies during transport. Rolling on the floor laughing

I agree that one's conditions define the proper growing technique. With the OC, I can control watering which I have found is very important. I may even get up the nerve to try a Miltonia again. I have talked to Bill Thoms and a local grower, Paul Phelps of Phelps Farms, and found they both grow Bulbos in moss. I have two or three of them in moss right now and they seem to be doing fine. That could change in a minute if I detect root rot.

Just to really confuse things, I have most Bulbos mounted or in net pots but I also have some thriving in the dreaded sphagnum which they came in.

Nice fat pouch on that Paph, Bree! Smiling

I suppose as long as one changes the Sphagnum every 6 months?

Love those floofy picotee lips, Bree.

We got below 70deg. last night, too! I got to open the patio door this morning and let some fresh air in. Ahh.

I fear we have lots more summer to go before it's dependably cool, though.

You're right Elaine, we have had a couple of days where you could actually catch your breath. That is set to end tonight as the humidity returns. I went to the orchid club meeting today and failed to win any ribbons. I did however come home with a new baby, one that I had never heard of before. It looks like a little Vanda and is called Christiana Pink Torch. It is not in bloom but I figure the best way to learn about a plant is to grow it.

For those in the Tampa area, there will be an Orchid Expo (show and sale) on October 20-21 at the USF Botanical Gardens. The hours are 10:00 to 4:00. There will be around 8 vendors plus orchid supplies and orchid clubs.

Trying to look up your nice Vanda, I am not finding it, even with some changes in the name.

And for those down here in the Sarasota area, Tropiflora is having their open house and Fall Festival Oct. 5th to 7th. There will be fabulous orchids, acres of bromeliads to knock your socks off, and lots of other vendors there selling unusual stuff. I just love to walk around and ogle all the great plants as long as its not too hot!

I haven't been able to find it either, Ursula. I don't think it is suppose to be a Vanda, it just looks like one. I'm going to have to get back with the grower. He was the speaker at today's meeting. Right now I'm trying to prepare for tomorrow's radio interview.

Your celebrity went down hard today. I'm just back from the radio station where I spoke with the morning program manager and the station manager. It seems neither knew about me or the interview. No interview was on the scheduled and they knew nothing of this entire deal. Also, I have repeatedly called the station where I am suppose to do the same thing tomorrow and have not received a call back. So I made the decision to scrap that one as well. Even a volunteer deserves some respect.
