Also can't wait to see your photo of Marina del Rey, Betty. Looking forward to it.

Susan, my external hard drive and disks are not organized either. That's why I don't
like looking for some particular flower in them. With many photos, I just plop them in
there the way they are to save time. Certainly not saving time when looking something
up though. Ah, well, seems there is so little time, especially in the spring. Big Red Wagon
is on my list too. Also, a big edgy red with a lighter color eye zone which is not easy to find.

Dot, I hope my Raspberry Mountain does as well as yours did. Your photos are gorgeous.

Susan, big edgy red is a description of what I am looking for. It's not a name if
that is how my description sounded. Sorry, I should have been more clear with the writing.
FC has some that almost fit what I'm looking for, so will probably get one of those.

And I really like Marina del Rey. It's a beauty.

Susan, Floyd Cove only had one summer sale that I know of -- back in 2011, I think. But they didn't have one last year. Also, I got my order from Mark at Abundant Daylilies a couple of weeks ago, and most of the SF's I got from him were huge -- I think I counted four out of the five "Prisms" I got that were totally huge and ready to split, which they have since done, and there is a scape emerging from each. So one SF was plenty from Mark, and I hope yours are equally large.

Now to the mystery -- my daylily bloom on "MARINA DEL REY" opened yesterday, but I thought it had been mislabeled and looked more like MOVING PICTURES, which was a disappointment as the other gift plant they sent was MOVING PICTURES. But after looking at the pictures of both again this morning, I think maybe it might be MARINA DEL REY after all. What do you-all think? The fact that the darker color of the eye goes above the white star points led me back to MARINA DEL REY, and I simply don't know about the coloring. But I do love the green throat and the star effect in the eye, so I'm pleased overall. It was not a good first bloom, and our weather has been crazy lately -- going from 85 one day to 65 the next. And I never get the edges that everyone gets back east with all the humidity, so it's hard to tell. I guess the only way to be sure would be to email them and ask for their opinion.

MARINA DEL REY?

I've been needing to spray again for insects, but it's been breezy to windy just about every day, so yesterday I got out there and sprayed in the breeze anyway because of the condition of that bloom.

Looks good to me and I do recognize the star from the AHS, depending on the camera some can look more pink and some purple. For a FFO I think it is beautiful. Is is diamond dusted??

Green Grin!
I am getting about 14 daylilies from Abundantdaylilies.

I would email them to clarify the true identity. It just doesn't look like their photo, to me. I've always lived by that motto, "It's easier to ask than wish I had".

I waited until I got a bloom on the other fan, and this one looks a little more like MARINA DEL REY, although our temperature dropped 25 degrees (highs in the low to mid-60's) and it certainly is not a good enough bloom to post to the database yet. And this flower didn't open until mid-afternoon yesterday. I really love the eye pattern, and the edges look better -- and our temps are supposed to go back up to near 90 again this weekend. Sure wish the weather would stabilize because I've been getting some really weird looking blooms in the last week! But it's much better than snow... And rain would be delightful at this point! But at least I'm pretty sure now that this is not MOVING PICTURES.

Betty, when did you get this plant? If it set this scape prior to planting it,, I don't see how it can be so different from their photo. After one settles in, I can understand that the colors will and can change, but this one is so far removed from their photo, I don't see the same plant at all.

All of my Floyd Cove's started sending up scapes a couple of weeks after I received them, and I've potted up all of them. They've been in a lot of shade since I planted them, and of course it's cooler in the shade. SPINEFELD has one opening today, but it's doing the same thing and I don't think it will be open until much later today, or even tomorrow. I think maybe I'll move all of the ones with scapes to another table that gets much more sunlight and see if that makes a difference.

The same thing happened a couple of days ago with my ART GALLERY SWEET TOOTH -- absolutely no resemblance to the blooms in their pictures on their website. And it was so bad that I didn't even take a picture -- no teeth, narrow dark petals and sepals, and the bloom never really opened all the way. Somehow I really can't believe that two different hybridizers sent the wrong plants of new introductions to me. And they both opened the same day, too, so I know I need to wait to see what happens with future blooms after the weather stabilizes before rushing to judgment.

Even though this doesn’t apply to most people on this forum, I’ll just comment that those of us who live in areas where the bloom season as a rule has nights in the high 40’s/low 50’s and daytime highs that might not reach 70 degrees, are constantly on the lookout for daylilies that simply open at some point during the day. Betty, many thanks for the ‘heads up’ about the ones that don’t!

I have had one bloom on a newly purchased plant from FL and , just like Betty, it was so bad that I wasn't sure I had the correct plant. It didn't open well, but that is to be expected. What REALLY bothered me were the colors in the bloom - they weren't even close to what they should have been. The hybridizer has generously offered to send another plant, but we agreed to wait for a few more blooms to see if it straightens out and begins to look like it should. I am sure the scapes were already set by the plant when we received them and the digging and shipping bare root and then growing new roots and adjusting to a new climate can greatly affect those first blooms.

I've had crappy first blooms, too, but they atleast were close in color and eyes. I do agree, though, it would be some bad luck(sounds like my kind of luck!), to get two from different growers that were wrong plants. SO, we will hope tthat you are very patient and maybe with the onset of some good weather, your blooms will improve, greatly!! Now, lets see, GOOD WEATHER, Oh YEAH, that's what we had last SPring, not much to brag about this year.

Boy, what a difference a few days -- and 25+ degrees -- make! I zoomed out the back door this morning and found this little beauty! And I'm now convinced it is MARINA DEL REY, and I love it! In our climate daylily blooms always look a little different than they do in the more humid climates. It probably will never get much more of an edge than this one has, and the eye pattern will probably always look like this -- and I'm TOTALLY pleased!

Now, that looks more like it Betty. The plant just had to get over being
dragged out of its comfy resting place and shipped away. Big Grin

I received mine today from Floyd Cove. Raspberry Mountain, Game Face, Sweet Almond Mint, and as
a bonus another Born to be Wild baby---(Dancing Jubilee). I am super super happy. These fans are huge.

Beautiful Shirlee, I am getting Raspberry Mountain next year from FC. Unless it is super vigorous. I was only able to get a single fan from the LA. Sometimes the single fans will surprise us and I hear abundantdaylilies sends big ones. Green Grin! Enjoy your daylilies, they are beautiful!!
