No. It never flowered for me. Maybe I just have trouble making that one happy. It seems less forgiving. I'm trying one more time.

I've only had 2 issues with Black Prince:
1) Baby rattler snuggled up against top half of the echeveria
2) Center was invaded by ants and coloring of the center of plant never looks right.

Sue, thanks again, I am zone 9b Hurray! no bringing these plants in.

Greg you are welcome. I'm still not buying online Smiling just because I like to walk and shop; and being old school also keeps my budget in check. Whistling

Clint, this is my first 3 months buying Echeveria and tender succulents. I had a boat planter from all the cuttings I received from a friend last year. Then, I accidentally found this forum and saw Lynn's and everybody's collections and I'm hooked. Clint, Don't throw away the leaves of your "black prince" they might re-grow and make babies if you plant them. I'm planting a lot of Echeveria leaves right now, let's see if they give me babies or if they will die.

Gigi, if they die on you, I would be happy to send you the ones I have started from leaves from echeveria, graptoveria, pachyveria, pachyphyluum pictured below.

Clint, So far my Black Prince has only shed one leaf and seems to be doing quite well. I have mine under a little one bulb fluorescent light though all day long and many of my other tenders are as well.

Bev, thank you for the generous offer, Hurray! Your babies are sooooo cute! I might take you up on your offer since I think there is no going back with this new fascination Whistling :whistling:. I will just wait a little longer when work slows down and days are longer and I will have more time to fuss with the new babies . Maybe we can swap babies too, if I have anything you like.

Jackie, I was the same zone as you, then moved down here were "pop" is called "soda" and the sun shines all year round, hence the name Sunshine State, and where you can go to the beach even on winter. But I do miss the tulips and the peonies and the cherry blossoms in spring and the fall colors and the white winter. etc, etc. I don't miss the cold. Brrrr!

Ooops Bev, I just noticed, you didn't bury the leaves? I buried the bottom part of my leaves a little bit, maybe I should dig them out. Confused

Gigi I would miss my spring and fall time here in Michigan. I have made it to Hawaii and 70's all year round with a slight mist in the air from the mountains and where every day is the same is ideal for me. I think I shall make it to Florida here eventually but havent been there since I was around 7 years old and barely remember much at all. Calling pop "soda" is just weird Hilarious! Dont forget to keep us updated with pics of your babies Hurray!

Jackie...will do Smiling I pulled some leaves from my Aloe Donnie too and planted it. That's how I propagate my "snake plants".

Oh really? I have a snake plant that was my mothers that I dont seem to do that well with. It's green but the leaves are not to think and sorta want to droop a bit at times. I hear they really prefer to be pot bound a bit as well. I will be replanting mine soon. My aloe seems to be doing quite well. Didnt know you could just take a leaf and plant it that way. Good info Gigi thanks

I read it somewhere that you can grow an aloe using a leaf or by division. So I pulled the bottom ugly looking leaves, planted them to see what happens. My snake plants' leaves got sunburned but will do fine now that they are in shade and they like to be dry before watering. Here's a little guy I planted from a leaf. Each leaf of a snake plant, makes multiple babies.

Not sure which side you mean by bottom but I just made sure that the part of the leaf that was attached to the stem is very near the soil. I think when that part senses the damp soil, it will send out roots. Right after I posted that photo for you, Gigi, I replanted those plantlets to another planter and the little buds all have roots with the original leaves still attached except for a couple where the mother leaf shriveled up. I will wait a little longer before putting into indiv. pots because space is getting to be an issue.

I will put your name on them in case you call/type for them because as you remember, I have that 3 tiered monstrosity that I have to water with all those echeverias in them. I actually added 2 more and removed a graptosedum and a graptoveria 'Debbie' to make room for the extra echeveria. I have an extra Grapto 'Debbie' baby if you want one... Smiling

Hi Bev, sorry wasn't able to treemail you. Been working on our yard all week-end (DH pulled and gave away non-blooming shrubs to make room for my growing plumeria collection), my back hurts and looks like this is going to be a bigger project than we intended. Angry Needless to say, my succulent collections and 65 plumeria seedlings are all over the place. My DH begged (or barked!) not to buy or bring anymore plants until we are done remodeling our front and backyard Crying Crying He said, I'm growing a forest (plumerias are trees) not a garden Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Yes, that's the snake plant. I have a few of them grown from leaves but they look pitiful because they got burned from the sun but they are going to be fine!

Thanks Gigi,my sans has made so many babies i don't know what i'm going to do with them.I bought a pot with 2 in it that was all i wanted didn't know they had so many babies.Anyone want some,i'll be happy to mail you some.Mine are a little bleached from the sun but doing great.I have to get them in a bigger pot.Need to do some research,i was wondering if they would do ok in a deep pot or more shallow pot?? Confused Mine are planted in a soilless mix of rock, bark etc... i use that orchid mix for a few plants that don't like to stay wet but it gets hot here so it holds just enough moisture they don't dry out for about 2 days. The sans & leaf cactus do well in it.

This plant has thorns that will get you if not careful.I have a better picture just can't find it right now. It's considered a tender succulent right???
