Wanted to update on my log planter. Not sure weather I should remove the semp and try to save it. Does not look like it is doing so well where it is. Some of the other semps have also died. It has it's back turned to the sun, perhaps I should have it turned in the other direction.

The log does look great Marilyn. The semp looks to be showing signs of dehydration, which would be normal this time of year in your climate. Still having that intense sun? No rain?

We have had several days of afternoon showers but the weather, until today, has been in the 90s.

It sits right above the lawn sprinkler so gets water 2x per week plus whatever I give it, which is not too much.

I did not want to start pulling leaves until I was sure if I should pull it out and plant it in soil.

Water me! is what I first thought, but, I love the watermarks on that semp! Totally cool, and the other plants look good! Even the semp isn't totally bad looking! I like that the log shape seems to follow along the brick shape!! It looks good Marilyn! Hurray!

Thanks for you input Lynn and Greg, I will try to give it a bit more water and see if it will revive.
Don't know if I should just put it in a sheltered place for winter or leave it where it is?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Tabby or Pickles should have an idea...if it were in Seattle I'd leave it where it is! but with your freezes, I don't know?? I tip my hat to you.

Right, I will do some checking. Tabby usually says let it stay where it is, but this is in a pretty exposed area. Maybe I will move it down into the rock garden to give it a bit of protection. Only about 10 inches from where it is.

As long as its in full sun! Pickles grows all her semps in pots, so we know it can be done, I just don't know if she protects them or not? @tabby, @picklepuff

I have no where with full sun, although once the leaves fall there is more than during the summer.

I have been to their places and I think Sandi and Tabby both leave them out. Sandi has a pergola type thing where a lot of her seedlings live, but the others are in the open in pots and in the ground.

Maybe they will have some input for me. Thanks for tagging them.

I agree with waiting for tabby and Sandi's help on the topic of sighting the log.
The semp actually looks healthy, just some dried/dead leaves at the base of the rosette. Gently remove them while holding the rosette steady, so as not to dislodge it or damage the roots. That will tidy it up a bit.
I am having to do that with some of mine after the summer heat and drought.

Giving an update 'cause Marilyn gave us one...Remember my log that I planted a while back? Well you can quit wondering how it is doing because it kept tipping over (does not lay flat) and with all the other planters I potted up afterwards , I sort of forgot about the log in the background. It looked not at it's best and since I am an emotional container gardener, I scraped and pulled everything out. Grumbling
I think I like the log better this way: it does not require water. Hurray!
