To me, it's definitely worth replacing as an annual if it doesn't. Here we are, heading into the middle of October, and it's still wowing with masses of blooms.

I'm planning on getting the camera out to get some new puppy pix today, so I'll try to get some late season shots of this plant as well. Smiling

Thanks chelle. I haven't found any for sale locally, or I would have bought one. I do have some seeds, but can't remember which cultivar it is. Not sure how easy they are to start from seed, but I'll give it a try! I've got nothing to lose!

Do any of you have a favorite place to mail order passies from? Growing up, we had a fence between us and the house behind ours, and the entire fence was covered in passies. It was one of the most beautiful things I've seen! I'd love to repeat that here, but hopefully with one that will survive the winter.

Pretty sure mine are done for this year. The heavy frost on hundreds of buds and blooms this morning was really pretty, but bittersweet. I had the pup on a lead and my feet were like popsicles, so no pictures this time.
Really hoping this one winters over in one way or another. It was the highlight of my gardens this year. Smiling

Chelle, I also really enjoyed mine after trying them for the first time. Mine were still blooming yesterday, not sure if I will take them out of the large planter box and bring them indoors for the winter. Perhaps I will just check the garden center out next year to see if they have them.

Thumbs up Betty.

Mine still look okay, too. Blinking I'm really surprised. I haven't really noticed any new buds opening up since, but the plant isn't mush yet either.

Will see how it goes here, if it can survive our super dry condition during summer. My garden thankfully gets afternoon shade from the city trees when summer is here.

I'm growing a potted passie. I haven't come up with a satisfactory method of growing a climbing vine in a pot. The trellis will catch the wind here, so the whole thing has to be anchored somehow. Then there is the problem of bringing it inside in the winter. The one I have grew a long root out the bottom of the container. It's in the garage, but hasn't been a happy camper this winter and I still haven't come up with a good solution for this coming summer.

Yes, that is a concern for me too Donald, the winds. I cannot use our fence for it to climb on, our HOA will not allow it. I am hoping this variety I have I can just leave outdoors here even in winter, since it can go to low 20's, and the write up says it can stand our wet winter as well, not that it is raining often anyways. Will just have to see how it goes.

Tarev, my father had Maracuja-Passies growind along a (solid) fence (trained not to pass to the neighbour's side). He lived in an equivalent to your USDA zone 9b, with some frost episodes during winter, but the fence acted as protection and the plants produced humungeous amounts of fruit each year (despite some drastic pruning).

From my books purchased from the RHS and the monthly members magazine, I learned that plants located against a wall receive the benefit of slow warmth release collected during the day.

Maybe you could build your own version of one of these? I've had this bookmarked just for the idea (the pre--made planter is WAY too expensive!)

For the passies that want to take over too fast and have to be potted up with trellis in the pot WITH a tray under. I used to put a galvanized fence pole behind them in cement and wire the trellis to the pole
It doesn't take that much cement and then it is still easy to dig out should you need to
I wish I had pix to share

I have also had the trellis behind the pot in the ground and when I bring them in, I cut them back and away from trellis

Just monitoring my passies after our recent rains, doing quite well! I have been able to remove the temporary ties I did, since it has now managed to cling nicely to my two stakes.

Repotted my passies, so I can add a sturdier trellis. It has easily outgrown the simple stake I used before.
