No, not at all. When I uploaded my first image, I took Deb's suggestion (post 24 on this page - "I would also like to encourage folks to use the Comment section to begin a conversation about their particular image. A good starting spot would be to describe the site and soil conditions so us onlookers might glean some tips to apply to our own beds.) and added exposure, soil etc. information to my photo. As I have been looking at other image sets, I have noticed that some people are adding this information in the comment section but it sometimes gets lost among other threads in that same comment section. Part of the problem, I think, is that we all title our thread that gives this information something different. I was wondering if, when we upload an image set, if we could fill out a comment-type section then (optional, of course Smiling ) that would be displayed along with the photo and plant list - rather than a thread buried amongst other threads in that Image Set's comments section).

Zuzu, I would lean toward the 'forever' response time on other garden web sites. And, yes, I do appreciate not only the fact that Dave responds promptly and courteously, but he also listens open mindedly to ideas/suggestions/critiques of new features. I get so weary of the unnecessary personal attacks and rude comments on other social networks - it appears the anonymous factor tends to throw all civility out the window. I commented about this once to my son, noting how refreshing it is to have a polite discourse on various subjects on my garden site, and he looked at me rather askance and said, 'What do you expect, they're all gardeners...' Which I took as a huge collective complement for us all!

LOL, we were just talking about this the other day, weren't we? ATP is refreshing, rather than frustrating like some other nameless site.

I really like this idea. It would be an addition to the tagged photo if I am understanding correctly. It would be attached to it, maybe below the list of plants?

I agree
Yes, it creates an atmosphere of learning and testing new ideas. And in the process is forming real bonds between the people in this community. Hurray!

Lynn - yes. Thank you for expressing it better than I did. I would really find it helpful if zone, sun exposure, soil condition, etc., were all there when looking at the photo rather than digging through the accompanying comments and threads to find the information.

My main concern is that I really strive for consistency across the site, and I am very hesitant to change behavior of a feature for a single area.

In every feature of the site where people can comment on a contribution (making a thread about it) they all behave the same: a list of threads are presented and you click on them to read them. It is this way in the ideas, blogs, database images, etc.

So if I changed the way this was presented, it would completely alter the flow of that feature and I guarantee will confuse some people who get used to how the site navigates. So, to make such a change, I think it would have to be a pretty big reason.

Since this is such an unique feature, and the environment plays such a significant role in forming these combinations, perhaps soil, exposure, etc., is more significant? These factors often are the defining factors when making the choice for companion plants.

Regardless of your decision, I really appreciate the fact that you allow us all to make suggestions, pester you with our "wish-lists", etc. Big Grin Thank you, Dave, for all that you do I tip my hat to you.

Is there a way to have it be part of the photo? Say at the bottom of the photo is a text box to add that type of information, if a person chooses to do so?

I think posting as a comment is still an excellent way. And you can make the subject say, "Information about this setting" or "Zone, Sun, etc info" and what-have-you.

Ahhh, I see what you are saying. After making the Image Set you would post a comment right away, with the information concerning the photo.

Miss the plant links at the top of the images, I thought they weren't linked. How come they are below the photo now?

Ahh, missed that. Personally, I like it at top, love seeing the larger lists and that someone went through all the work to add the links, I know it will be a fun tagged image to go through.

Well, those are good points, and that was a lot of my own thinking when I originally put them up top.

What to do? Move them back?

Dave, is it possible to show the linked plants while in edit mode? It would make it easier to know what tagged plant isn't linked to the DB.

Occasionally I'll edit someone's image set (I try to remember to Treemail the author) so the cultivar is linked to the DB. It's usually the result of a misspelling or something similar. I hope no one is offended, but these side by side comparisons are just so helpful in the database.
