Okay, where is the fainting emoticon. I can hardly handle the excitement of such wonderful new features. Hurray! Hurray!
Maybe the jumping up and down so much is what makes me feel like I need the fainting emoticon? Blinking
Now I have to go play with the new feature.

I would also like to encourage folks to use the Comment section to begin a conversation about their particular image. A good starting spot would be to describe the site and soil conditions so us onlookers might glean some tips to apply to our own beds.

I added a snazzy tag cloud to the top of the Image Sets front page. It looks at the most common kinds of plants and gives you links to view sets that contain those kinds of plants.

For example, if you click on Roses you will see all image sets that have at least one rose tagged in it.

What a great feature, Dave! I finally got up the courage to try one and, as always, am a bit lost on one of the plants. I show a Penstemon in image #133 (??) but cannot figure out how to tag it back to the database. I looked up Penstemon in the db for the general entry but it refers to a red Penstemon only and I am sure that the one in my garden is a volunteer from a purple Penstemon that wasn't entirely weeded out at the start of this project. I would like to tag it if possible but am at a lost (no surprise here nodding ) as to how. All of the other Penstemons that I saw are named varieties.

Deb, great timing for your great posting! I was trying to sneak in a comment or two in the boxes I drew but when I saw your post, I knew that was the better way to handle it. I added the site and soil conditions as you recommended so, hopefully, I got it all Thumbs up .

Nailing down which variety you have is important if you want it to be accurate. But if you don't know what the variety is, you can usually just link it to the main (non-cultivar) plant of penstemon.

Which in this case would be this page:

Penstemons (Penstemon)

Just copy and paste the link to that page into the tag and it'll handle all the heavy lifting from there.

Also you don't have to look up the ID. You can just copy and paste the whole link to the plant's page and the system will look up the ID based on the link.

I just copied the page that Dave linked to. Could this page have slipped by without a plant id #? Maybe I am having an extreme senior moment, but I am not finding it. I will go ahead and do the copy and paste.

Beard Tongue (Penstemon)

"Although widespread across North America, and found in habitats ranging from open desert to moist forests, and up to the alpine zone, they are not typically common within their range.

Although penstemons are among the most attractive native flowers of North America, Europe has always been far more active in their cultivation, and hundreds of hybrids have been developed there since the early 19th century.

A number of different species have been used in the hybridization process, notably P. cobaeus and P. hartwegii.

In North America, penstemons are often used in xeriscape landscaping, as many are native to desert or alpine regions and thus quite hardy. One of the largest collections of penstemons in North America is found at The Arboretum at Flagstaff, Arizona, which hosts a Penstemon Festival each summer."

Don't copy the contents of the page. Just copy the web address to the page.

It looks like:

allthingsplants.com/plants/view/527241/Beard-Tongue-Penstemon/

But it begins with http...

Find the plant's page and then select the entire web address in the URL location field in your browser. That line is what you want to copy into the tag box.

I did copy the web address (only) to the page. I copied the actual page here, though, hoping that someone could locate the plant id # for me as I am still not seeing it and was wondering if this one snuck by without a plant id# assigned.
