I soaked the seed for several hours but found it hard to hold the seed and nick it. What do you use to nick the seed, Jospeh ?

You can use a nail file to saw a small nick in the seed coat. Put the seed on a hard surface like a kitchen counter top, press down on the seed with a couple of fingers so it won't move around, and use the other hand to manipulate the file. On Ipomoea nil, such as Danjuro, if I have to nick the seed, I try nicking the pointed end which is opposite the hilum, or the circular scar on found on the fat end of the seed. Soaking can soften the seed coat making it easier to nick it. I have some practice doing it so I use a sharp edge like a small scissors; the nail file is safer option.

The seeds I planted at the fence are about an inch or two tall now. Milky was was slower to start than grandpa ott. And the pot I was growing moss in started to mold, so I'll try watering it less. I've been watering it often so it stays moist at all times.

Those purps should enjoy PR climate. It's good to hear they're growing well.

My purp seed germinated after 1 day. I'll pot it after the seed root gets longer.

I gently installed the germinated seed in a container. Let's hope for cotyledons by Monday.

Do y'all know of a good way to dry my seeds? I normally let seeds dry on the plant, but I can't do that with the ones I foraged, and most of them ended up getting moldy. I read I can put them in the sun for a day, but I'm worried it would rain or they'd get eaten by birds or insects. I also read I can put then in a dehydrator, but I'm not sure if that is a good idea or not.

I let my seeds sit in a small paper dish or cup for a couple of weeks at room temperature.

I agree with Joseph. Just let them sit inside to dry. I think a dehydrator might kill the embryo Thinking If you have enough seeds try the dehydrator as an experiment and then test for germination.

i tried my hand at sprouting I. nil this year.
I grew regular ones outside in a large half barrel, but never indoors.
Incouraged by all the posts here i picked up some seeds and they sprouted fast even still in water after 3 days. I put 2 together in a cup and on queue they produced flowers after 4 leaves!

It is I. nil 'Murakumo'.
very nice stripes, but after that the flowers are mostly pale blue-lavender with faint striping. Kinda disappointing.
I uppotted it to give it more room to grow and am waiting to see if it'll help.

Good growing, Skylark! I like the yellow green leaves and that blizzard color pattern is drool worthy to my eyes. Thumbs up

i am now not sure: i knew that the flower changes color as it ages.
The first ones turned pink by the end of the day! Like this:

the older blue-lavender were already in the evening and i got so pissed, i cut them off not waiting more...Perhaps they would become pink later and were actually more stripy in the morning?

Oooh, I'm going down a rabbit hole right now. There's a plant in my yard with very pretty flowers but it stinks to me (contains indole and that smells like feces), but most of the people I asked like it, so I thought about perfume and looked it up- anyway, this is getting out of hand, my point is I was looking up making perfume out of petals and I can make perfumed pomade out of petals and I've been wanting pomade, so I'll have to experiment with that with morning glories some day Grin

I think it is truly remarkable that your plants are blooming when they are so diminutive.

A feces fragrance in a perfume I would wager would be a big seller amongst some segments of society.

Is the plant that Dracunculus flower that smells like dead animals? I have a really large one growing out in my front garden. I never dreamed it would be winter hardy in Delaware. Now it's a forever plant. I have it planted near the mailbox. I wonder what the letter carrier things of it when in bloom. It's got really cool looking leaves though.

It might not deter the postman, but surely mailbox scavengers won't like it!
I didn't know what it was in bot gardens, but i tracked it down: i love the leaves and the burgundy spath too. But it did not smell when we were there. Does it smell for a very short time?

I think it's the magic light of Miami FL Smiling that does the trick. I do have a question about shorter daylight hours: at what cut-off day length do they (I. nil) stop blooming? We are at 11h20min now. Max day length here is 13:45. They are supposed to be perennials here by the way!
