Isn't Moris Gudanov the only doubled Darwin Hybrid? (double form of Gudoshnik)

Can't wait to see your pics of it!

Marilyn, I've seen a couple of other double Darwin Hybrids this year. Scheepers offered Akebono, a double sport of Jewel of Spring, and I think I saw a white/cream double sport of Ivory Floradale, but I can't recall where.

And great customer service! How many more bulbs did you receive than you were originally planning?

Thanks Marilyn, and thanks Neal for clarifying about the double Darwin hybrids. I also have 100 Akebono that need to be planted. They're going in my new back bed with the newly planted peonies, along with 100 each on N. Winston Churchill, and 100 Hyacinth City of Haarlem.

Today was another productive day.
92 more bulbs of Moris Gudanov were planted in my street bed with pansies and snapdragons.

I also moved some muscari around to create a river of blue in front of my left front bed. These are in the front of the bed where I planted MG last year, and it also has Gudoschnik, La Courtine, and Sancere, the latter 3 which keep coming back for several years. The daffodil in between these tulips is Tahiti, that's also been in this bed for several years.

I forgot that I bought daffodils and tulips locally from Walmart, for some plant pots for work, and I also got some for myself. I planted 10 Darwin hybrid mix tulips and 15 N. Golden Ducat in pots on my kitchen steps.

Here's one of the beds I did yesterday. This is the walkway by my front door.

Akebono is a stunning flower. I had planted it two years in a row. But it only comes up the one spring and does not return again. Wish it stuck around.

Thanks j.

Rita, I planted Akebono several years ago in one of my back garden beds, and you're right, it only bloomed that 1st spring, but nothing the next year. It is a beautiful tulip, I love the variation in bud color.

Thanks Ann😁

I'm looking forward to next spring as well. Only 628 more bulbs left to plant to make the spring show happen Blinking I hope to get more done tomorrow. We have rain predicted with a 20% chance on Sunday, and 100% chance on Monday, this should hopefully get the bulbs started in making some roots before the ground freezes.

Didn't remember that Akebono, was a double sport of Jewel of Spring. Don't think I've seen a pic of the white/cream double sport of Ivory Floradale.

Regarding Longfield Gardens: according to their site; their guarantee is....

"Longfield Gardens sells high quality bulbs and perennials and guarantee to provide plants true to the variety purchased in prime conditions. If a product is not the variety you ordered, damaged in anyway or does not grow, just let us know and a replacement product will be sent, free of charge."

http://www.longfield-gardens.c...
(scroll to the bottom of the page)

On this order, I had ordered a total of 75 bulbs of the Citrus Squeeze Mix and had some problems with some of the bulbs and rec. 125 of the Mix. Some of the bulbs that I rec. today were some I wouldn't (and didn't) plant. They were soft, didn't look as good as most of the others and looked a little small, so I picked the best and largest to plant. DH and I were stunned to see 125 bulbs. (50 more bulbs than my order). Might be since they are winding down on the Fall orders and/or he didn't want me to write back on this batch. Hilarious!

On the previous order of bulbs, I had ordered (among other Darwin Hybrids), a bag of Rosy Delight (10-count) one of the bulbs was dried out, small and didn't look good, so I threw it out. I emailed Longfield Gardens and mentioned that to them. This is what they wrote back......

Hi Marilyn,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear that you had a bad bulb in one of your packages, we will gladly send you a replacement bag. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Regards,
Hans

After I got his reply, that's when I noticed their guarantee on their website. I didn't "see" it until then. I didn't realize he would send a replacement bag of bulbs.

Great company to order bulbs from. I just noticed they have Spring planted bulbs and bare root perennials also.

We are suppose to get snow this weekend. Blinking Sad Thumbs down I heard tonight on the news that Hebron suppose to get 1.5 approx. of snow. We are getting "mid Jan. weather" here in mid Nov. Crying We have been getting below freezing in the 20's and now we are going to get lows in the 10's. Tuesday's weather is a low of 14 and a high of 29. Blinking

I haven't had a chance to cover my beds with leaves, etc., yet. Guess I'll be bundled up and trying to do that this weekend. The deep arctic cold suppose to be through Thanksgiving week. Sighing!

Brrrrr.....okay, I'm going to try and think positively about this premature winter blast. The weed seedlings that keep germinating so quickly should no longer be such a problem, and the ground should be cold enough to go ahead and mulch. I like to mulch after the ground is cold or frozen in fall, it holds in the cold and keeps things from sprouting too early and prevents heaving from constant freezing and thawing. I also feel like it deters burrowing rodents.

We mulch in the fall here with long needle pine straw, once I have all of my bulbs and peonies planted, and the trees have lost all of their leaves.

We don't get heaving of any plants here thank goodness. Our ground doesn't get frozen deeply, or for a prolonged period of time.

@Marilyn, sorry to here about the snow so early. On Tuesday, we have predicted temps of 37/27 Sighing! Crying It looks like we'll see a warming trend the week of thanksgiving.

I just keep thinking positive, that this cold weather is providing good chilling time for the bulbs and peonies, which will provide us with better blooms next spring.

Ot sure is an early arctic blast. On Tuesday & Wednesday nights our lows are predicted to be 25 and 27 respectively. This is truly unseasonable here. We had our first frost on 11/5 whereas the normal is Thanksgiving or later. We had light frost this morning.

Annette, I sure hope you can get a bunch planted today.

Annette and Ann,

Sure hope you both can get everything planted soon.

Hope we'll all get warmer days after this arctic blast moves out, even here in the north.

Mine are done Marilyn. I only had about 330 this year. Tulips won't do here so I only do daffs.

Annette.

You've planted hundreds of tulips. What's the total so far on bulbs?
