@Marily, thanks for the info about SWC, I'm really looking forward to seeing it bloom en masse, and enjoying the fragrance. I haven't grown WPM, but as much as I thought I had it, it may be on my list to order next year.

Jill. It's good to see you posting again Smiling I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one left with a lot of bulbs to plant. Hopefully, our ground won't freeze for some time.

It's a balmy 58 degrees right now, I hope to get some gardening done today, however my DS came home from college last night, so he's getting some mommy time today😊

I agree Thumbs up

It got into the 50's today, so I went outside to dig and replant those 12 Single Late tulips 'Dordogne' that I dug up the other week. They were firm and 'go to go' when I dug them up, but with this darn arctic freeze/blast that we've had for weeks, some of them were somewhat soft. I replanted all 12 of them anyway and afterward, I thought I should've just planted 12 of the Darwin Hybrid 'Citrus Squeeze' mix tulips that I still have instead. Blinking

Can't do anything outside Sunday, as were are suppose to have rain all day, even heavy at times. Rain suppose to continue into Monday.

Looks like Tuesday and Wednesday I could do some digging and planting. I'm thinking I might try and dig Dordogne up and plant with Citrus Squeeze mix, if I can.

Glad you got some work done @Marilyn. Hopefully you'll be done with all of your bulbs soon.

I did spend some time in the garden today, cleaning up the beds, cutting down dormant lilies and peonies. I also got 3 tree peonies and 1 Itoh planted. I wanted the peonies in the bed 1st, Akebono, SWC, and H. City of Haarlem will be planted around them.

I put one of my tree peonies in a bed where I have daffodils and tulips planted, and I accidentally dug up a large tulip bulb, that looked very healthy, and it had already rooted. I also noticed the daffodils planted there are starting to grow with small green tips exposed. I'm going to have to put some soil in this area to cover these bulbs. We've got a long way to go before spring gets here.

Thanks! I've been trying to keep up with reading posts here, but I often seem to get distracted before I manage to post a response. :-)

Daffs are all poking up here, too... makes it easier to see where it's safe to dig, but I want to yell at them, "Go back! go back!!"

I got 450 species crocus from Van Engelen at their end of season sale -- at some thing like $7 per 100 with shipping, they were too sweet to pass up. I probably should have resisted the daffs, but I got a bag of 'Precocious' (white, pink ruffled cup) and a bag of 'Audobon' (small cup with strong pink rim). At least the crocus I can throw down and cover with mulch... to plant the daffs, I have to dig!

Thanks Marilyn. They aren't going in my "gardens" though. I'm planting them here & there out in the fields & in the pecan grove. I want a naturalized look.

I did just go & plant 25 more drumstick allium bulbs I had ordered plus a whole bunch of crocosmia lucifer bulbs I received in a trade. So I'm caught up with my bulb planting until Brent & Becky's arrives.

Ann the naturalized fields will look glorious in the spring. I have always loved the way daffodils look in a meadow or field. So pretty and even if you put them there yourself, they look like they belong. Thumbs up

That's what I'm hoping for Rita. I'm trying anyway. If these do well, then next year I will just wait for the bang up sales like the one Brent & Becky's has going on now. Then I can buy to just add to what I've already done.

Yes, if you keep adding some year by year you will end up with the look you are going for. Plus the "old" ones should multiply.

I have to plant my daffs in my gardenbeds as there is not much lawn around here.

Ann, I love naturalized Daffs, and in an orchard setting they will be gorgeous. Come dividing time next year, I'll do my best to remember and let you know what I've got. I know some jonquilla hybrids will need it next year, and some others that are good in the south. I always have lots of extras I won't plant here.

This year I gave the extras to local gardening friends, and was able to do a nice bed for a business here in town my cousin manages. She got a bunch of Barret Browning and Sir Winston Churchill. I over planted the whole bed in yellow and orange Pansies, and planted some red and yellow, large bloomed daylilies between the clumps of Daffs.

Oh Neil! Thank you for even thinking of me. That would be lovely.
I would love to see that bed with the pansies. So you have planned it for several seasons worth of blooms. Very nice.

I have gotten some "wildflower seeds" & have yet to finish off my ordering of those. I also got some crimson clover seed -- just 5 lbs. this year to see how it does. I'm concentrating on getting lots & lots of seed out there this year. That will take time to realize the full effect as the perennials won't do a whole lot the first year. I have been seeing coreopsis out there though that are from the seed I put out last winter. They are looking nice & healthy & I should actually be able to see blooms from them this year. It all takes time to come to full fruition.

I have a plan with the crimson clover that serves 2 purposes. 1) Beautiful blooming ground cover and pollinator nectar. 2) The pecans need fertilizing twice a year. Around Valentine's day you have to fertilize with one that contains zinc otherwise the nuts won't properly fill out with kernel. Then you fertilize again in July. That is where the crimson clover comes into play. You don't need the zinc on the summer fertilization ~~~ it's mainly for nitrogen. The clover is a nitrogen fixer and will be dying right at the correct time to release the nitrogen to the pecans. I'm hoping we won't have to fertilize & can have the clover do the work for us. So that's part of my mad plan to see these pecans produce nicely with less work & expense.

I placed two orders (at different times) last year at Colorblends and when I got the tulips, they didn't look (and seem) any larger than the bulbs I got from other places online. Confused
I ordered 175 Gudoshnik that was shipped the week of Nov. 4 and then placed another order a little later for 100 of Best Purple that was shipped the week of Nov. 18. I've been wondering about that. Maybe if my order was one of the first orders they mailed out to customers, that maybe the bulbs would've been larger overall. I didn't get around to taking pics of the bulbs, since I was in a big hurry to get the soil amended, dig the trenches and plant the bulbs. I'm still going to order tulips from Colorblends, maybe in my haste, I misjudged the size of the bulbs.

Would y'all talk and share your experiences? Thanks! I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up

Those 125 Citrus Squeeze Mix tulips that I got from Longfield Gardens to "replace" (which I still planted) the 75, I didn't count every bulb in the packages that they came in, but I just counted what I had left (so far) and there's 31 left, so that means I planted 94 of them this month. I was surprised. Guess I'll count the flowers when they bloom. With some 'warmer' days ahead, I might try and see which ones are still viable and plant more. Thumbs up

Marilyn, I too thought the bulbs from CB were about the same size as the other vendors. I think they all say 12cm minimum what they call top size. Are you wondering if the bulbs are bigger early on, perhaps due to moisture loss?
