I am hard at work writing an orchid PowerPoint presentation as part of my Master Gardener duties. It really makes me research and I probably learn more by doing this. I will also give me a chance to show off some of my pictures.
My orchid club meeting is next Tuesday and I have a couple that may vie for ribbons. Melanie should have had her meeting this week and she normally comes home with new adoptions. Melaine, what trouble did you get into at your meeting?

Mom and I totally forgot to go to the meeting! Doh! I think because the third Thursday came early this month we both thought it was the following week. I'm running out of room for new adoptions anyway. But my Dad did bring home a cattleya yesterday from a friend of his who divided one. I haven't been outside to inspect it yet because it's too darn hot outside. It's not in bloom but his friend emailed a picture of a past bloom. Check is out! Isn't it pretty?
Took some pictures just before...as I am watching the painfully slow progress on my Habenaria medusa. Not much longer now...
The Vandofinetia White Crane is happily blooming along, this one is mildly fragrant, a touch of Jasmine.
and I am really liking the Papilionanthe teres x Neofinetia falcata as more blooms are open.
And Neofinetia falcata Shunkyuden's particular charm lies in the extra flower parts. This one always blooms later than my other Neos.
My second plant of Neostylis Fuchs Ocean Spray opens a spike
And these ridiculous guys are the tiny blooms of Sigmatostalix unguiculata
Kathy, I think I have bloomed Holcoglossum kimballianum once in more years than I wish to count! ( and I had 2 plants!!) So seeing buds is really great in my book!

All those Neo's are just lovely, Ursula. I like the tiny Sigs with their little parasols, too.
Jim, I've wondered before why you don't give MG talks on orchids. I'm sure it will be great when you get it done.
Flying home tomorrow so hope to touch base with new pics in the evening, all flights permitting.

As for me, I'm on the MG desk/phone duty all day today. It's hot and very humid today with rain expected again this afternoon. Yesterday, I took some poorly performing Vandas out of the OC and hung them in the golden rain tree. With the daily thunderstorms and constant high humidity, I'm hoping they improve.
The reason I never wrote an orchid presentation before is time. It takes a lot of time and effort to put a presentation together. I have already done 5 of them and that keeps my speaking schedule busy enough. I'm hoping this is the last one.

I guess I should stop drooling over all your lovely blooms and post the few I have here.
Acropera galeata (Gongora) actually bloomed last month, but I never got around to posting it. Blooms only last a week
Encyclia chondylobulbon, Neofinetia falcate from Ted, and Noid Oncidium
Summer is just arriving now, so maybe things will start blooming better.
Such nice blooms, Carol! The Gongora/Acropera is stunning, so many good looking full spikes!
Happy Summer!
Our Summer is lovely around here, temps are comfortably warm, just perfect! I wish it would stay like this for a few more weeks.
Neos have never been really happy with me but I bought an especially healthy one at J & L one year that always blooms. This year the 2 spikes are putting out an amazing jasmine scent all night. Is that typical-at night? Must use moths as pollinators with those nectaries.
Glad you are finally in summer Carol. Meanwhile, sposta get to 49 degrees F tonight.
Yes, that night scent is typical!
Neofinetia falcata smells so good in the evening and I can still catch the wonderful scent on early mornings. Many times I will bring a plant in bloom inside in the evening and plop it next to me to smell it. I love it, it is definitely part of their charm.
I don't even want to think about Fall yet...but the greenhouse has been "spit-polished" on the inside and is ready to be filled up again, somewhere during the month of September.
