Hmmmm just discovered this thread while surfing around. Stuff below has not been mentioned.

Heliotrope not mentioned here. Have a white one as an indoor plant and it has been in constant bloom since August 2014. Wonderful vanilla like scent. I plant Marine Heliotrope outdoors.

Brunfelsia - any of them. I have a Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow that has been in almost constant bloom since June 2014. Lady of the night is awesome as well and has lovely blooms. Princess of the night for over a year yet to bloom.

Cashmere Bouquet (Clerodendrum philippinum) - a soft smell nodding

White Butterfly Ginger - yum

Buddleia - Butterfly Bush - very subtle. When you have several ( I have ~ 25) a nice scent. Even massed - not overwhelming.

Datura (NOID Cream Triple) - must get up early or stay up late

Oleander roseum - very subtle - smells just like an old fashioned rose

Peruvian Daffodil - gentle, sweet - a wild bloom

Species Daffodil

~ Dittos on other stuff listed already

Brugmansia - mine (3) are blooming in my basement grow area - when I walked in the house the other day from outside, the smell was wonderful.

Does it grow well as an indoor plant year-round? Or do you put it outside in the summer? (When does it normally bloom for you? )

Ate either of these the same as the epiphyte Queen of the Night that blooms only at night? I first had the opportunity to see and smell one of those this past summer. It was beautiful.

I had these a couple of years ago in my front yard but didn't realize they had a scent. I left the bulbs in the garage this past season instead of planting them. I wonder if they will survive an 18-month dormancy period. Maybe I will try planting them again in the spring just to see. They are a little bit of a passion here because the bulbs have to be dug back up at the end of the season. Thumbs down ...but they are beautiful Lovey dubby

Regarding the bulbs - I never give up on one (or on seeds) until I've put them in some soil and tried!
Many don't make it, but some do.
I'm a penny pincher so I never give up until I am sure.

It blooms year round. Has not stopped since I bought it. After Mother's Day, I put it on my large screened porch where it gets a bit of direct light and lots of indirect light. In Winter it is ~ 2 feet from a south facing window in either the Kitchen or Living Room.

No. Completely different genus. Brunfelsia. When the Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow blooms, it blooms for ~ 2 - 4 weeks and it does this several times a year. Queen of the Night is a cactus - Selenicereus grandiflorus or Cereus. Brunfelsia is a shrubby perennial.

I don't know about the long term dormancy. They may have dried up. Have you looked at them?

Yeah - I dig up and store about 2 dozen different things. Not really that big of a deal and saves a heck of a lot of money. Shoot, I even dig up 4 o'clock tubers which have a bit of scent.

David, thank you for the info! I'm going to give further thought to the heliotrope based on what you've said. Previously, I'd written it off, but now it's back on the table again.

I'm going to try my Peruvian daffodils next year and I think I have just the spot for them this time, but I'll see. I was doing some deep reds and blues near the sidewalk in the front of our yard and I thought it would be neat to have something white and star-like that would bloom with it...sort of a patriotic display. (It might be cheesy, but I like the idea, anyway. Rolling my eyes. ) I was originally thinking the red and white would be various red daylilies with a white spider daylily, but now I'm thinking the Peruvian Daffodils might be great there! Hmm...

How about mignonette. It's not much to look at but plant it in a hanging planter at nose height and it's irresistable.
I also have a hoya in my entry that smells at night when blooming.
Peruvian daffodils smell good . . . I'll have to bring in the pot when they bloom this year.

Daphne, edgeworthia, and foam flower are my favorites..that I can manage to get to a bloom AND not get devoured. Lilac is a favorite but we don't have long enough / deep enough cold and roses are deer food. Also a subtle favorite that wafts around the garden..with the best spicy scent is caryopteris dark knight.

Who can resist the scent of the fringe tree...although short lived?

Unfortunately I am allergic to strong floral perfumes like Lilac. I have never scented the citrus trees in bloom or datura at night. I love freesia, rose, and thick stemmed fragrant orchid. I love Hyssop, Agastache, and Monarda(yummy!) Bearded iris are a surprising bunch. I have a lot of old lavendar noIDs. These would probably be listed as unscented, but I love getting really close and smelling them because it's like smelling someone's freshly shampooed hair. Another bearded iris had a strong fruity sugar candy scent. Last year one unfortunately made my nose run with a strong floral perfume. I just ordered a few bearded iris this year with scents I want to experience. Chocolate, pure vanilla, and grape candy. (Chocolate Swirl SDB, Tijuana Taxi TB, and Grape Harvest TB.).

Niki...freshly shampooed hair...clean, light, fresh..

The fragrance of foam flower -- that is exactly why I love it. easy to miss but every lucky moment is worth the wait. Poof!! it's gone.

Another fragrance that is clean ( not sweet tho ) and very difficult to describe is the flower of Dark Knight Caryopteris. The stems and leaves are spicy/ herbal but the flower fragrance can be caught every now and again hitching a ride on the wind.

I agree with Rosie on the Daphne...I first saw it at a nursery here a few years ago but was scared off by the price and fear the rabbits would just munch it to nothingness like they've done with so many other things. Love the Mock Orange! There's a plant that we see in Souther California and the flowers look like hanging white trumpets (Angel's Trumpets?) and it smells heavenly ( Big Grin )
