The BEST BEST fragrance to me ( you won't agree I bet ) is foam flower....not wanting across a yard... we need to be standing right there...but it is the CLEANEST, sweetest, freshest...fragrance...so so light...

@DavidLMO you've got to share your secret of overwintering some of these amazing plants. Jasmines/Plumies/Brugs can survive during the winter months for me indoors but that's about it.
“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

Much of it is trial and error. And lots of reading. And asking questions. Overall, experience is the best teacher. It is not all a piece of cake - I lose a few plants every winter. Last winter for example I killed an Adenium. This year so far I have killed a Kangaroo paws. Blinking D'Oh!

As I mentioned ...to me it is rather unattractive...except in bloom .... then it is strange appearing but the blooms are very sunny and springlike. ..I would not place it in a prime spot meant for visual interest... but along a deck or under a window... placed there ..oh man... or along a walkway that can support a tallish shrub .. keep in mind..it blooms in winter and so your windows not likely to be open

I would be thrilled if I could get a Brunfelsia to over winter for me!! A DOG friend in FL had share details one with me. I adored that fragrance!!! Sadly it died a premature death. I will pat myself on the back as, so far, the tropical Hibiscus and moonvine that I brought in last fall both are showing some new green growth after dropping all of their leaves.

Just thought about native Azaleas, like R. canescens. A nondescript plant except when the scented blooms are in action.

Never seen that one. Most azaleas are non-descript except when in bloom. I'd like one with a scent. Is it sweet? Spicy?

Callisia fragrans is kind of gangly & awkward regarding the foliage, but one sniff of the blooms should be enough to get anyone hooked! They are on the plant for about half of the year, but not open every day. They sure are today!! LOVE this smell!

It is hard to imagine anything beating a hyacinth for scent... But maybe I'm missing some good plants.

Oooh yes, I can think of a lot of floral scents I personally like better than Hyacinth, which is no doubt a very good scent! Callisia fragrans is one of them!
