The Fringe trees? I have never tried cuttings. I bought one of mine and grew the other from seed Smiling

I never saw seed......I will look at that...perhaps some make seed...mine doesn't that I know of.

This shrub got moved 3 times it took a beating . I really love it but as the years have passed..its blooms are not as abundant. I fear it is going to die soon and so I read about best way to propagate. The resource said it responds well to rooting cuttings.

I bought my seeds on the Internet.

Many things do well from cuttings this time of year. Good luck.

If you can find Dip n Grow, it is a much better rooting material than the powders.

My "strike" rate, especially for harder woods, is about 3 - 5 or more x better with Dip n Grow than powders. And yes on the inhaling the powder. Way bad for you!

Cool, I didn't know the fringe tree was fragrant. If I see one on the side of the highway I will have to stop & take a sniff.
Wild phlox have been blooming here and are one of my favorite springtime scents.
All these delicious favorites make it hard to want to go indoors in the spring.

Welcome! Vedic... I am delighted to see this thread pop up again. I was working outside over the weekend and catching scent of bloomers and thought of this thread.
In fragrant bloom right now, Carolina jessamine, Daffodils, Narcissus and my Lemon tree. Your job is enviable. I was given a clump of shampoo ginger and hope (wonder) if they smell wonderful too.

I'm heartbroken as my Daphne up and died last fall after 8 years for no reason I could tell :crying:

@ pod how does the Carolina jessamine compare to the Confederate? Wondering if it would be hardy to 7a??

And where did the posts from Vedic go????

You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

The Carolina jessamine grows wild in the woods here. It is no where near as intoxicating as the Confederate jasmine nor as long lasting. Confederate will forever and always be my favorite. Lovey dubby

Don't know where the Vedic posts went but they were promoting their own site. I toured it this a.m.

Daphne, Edgeworthia... I need to close my eyes! lol Y'all have a way of leading me astray! Green Grin!

It behaved just like it is supposed to..grew old and died. Isn't amazing how it is beautiful and then.......just goes brown and Poof! Once I had one..4-4.5 feet tall and 5 feet wide...PERFECT and then it happened .... it was8!years old too. Some I have lost after 6 ..Imdo not know what is average lifespan.

Thru a screen... this year I will buy two more and in about 3.years this will die..and those little ones will be this size.

The edgeworthia...can't kill it... but it is an ugly old thing

Well that makes me feel a little bit better because I just kept going over and over in my head what did I do - did I do something different etc. etc. etc. going to have to look at some of these other plants some of you were referencing that I have not experienced before.… Ugly or not if they smell good I'll take them!!

And if you all have a peanut butter shrub in your yard? I'll have to look up with the proper name is for that and at it later… But that shrub\tree starts blooming in July and continues through fall. It gets covered and blooms and has a wafting Lily-like scent. The butterflies love it, the hummingbirds love it, and the night pollinators love it… All around it's a wonderful plant to have!

You wont kill the edgeworthia ( paperbush ) and it will scent for 2-3 weeks ..if you bring a few in the house..the fragrance will waft and surprise. But truly, when not in bloom....nah... I would not put them in a prime visual piece of garden real estate. The daphne ( to me ) are beautiful regardless.
Years ago a wise neighbor said.." 0h, you bought a daphne...you will suffer heartbreak in a few years.."

Here is edgeworthia this morning..in bloom..I have them tucked around a deck. Once the flowers go...long green dull oval leaves will sprout from the tips..you can see some sprouting

It is VERY, very common for Daphne to just up and die. They are notorious for it. It IS just one of those oddities in the plant world.

And it seems to happen to many varieties - not just one of two.

BTW - one of my Brugmansia is blooming in my basement - Yum. Thumbs up

David - Brug blooms?!? I'm so jealous!!! I just keep spraying all of my cuttings that are rooting for spider mites and keep my fingers crossed that they'll make it so they can go outside! What type do you have?

Y'all have made me feel so much better about my Daphne!

Can anyone describe the scent of the paper bush?

I have 3 big Brugs - 2 NOID and one Arborea I grew from seed. My oldest has 32 blooms when I had to take it to the basement in November.

I have 7 plants of a fancy cross - don't recall - I started from seed last year. One of those is 4 feet tall now. It should definitely bloom this year.

My biggest problem is with Aphids. Ongoing and every year down there in my Chamber of Horrors. Whistling Thumbs up

Edgeworthia is one plant that I do not have. Sighing!

@Chantell It was NOT your fault. Keep your eyes open and pick up one on sale. That is what I did. I got one cheap from Parks a couple years ago. Last Summer it bloomed from May - November. Thumbs up

Passionflower vine, lilac, and last week I was in a nursery and smelled something called a paper tree. I have to get one! I tip my hat to you.
Have a great day all!
