@Dave is there a way to allow members to contribute articles again, perhaps using some of the suggestions mentioned above? I have several ideas to share, and I'm bursting at the seams! Thumbs up (Not to mention, it's a really great way to wind up with enough acorns to buy a decent amount of tickets for monthly drawings. Whistling Whistling Smiling )

We've been having a conversation about this; dave suggested that each of us who has an article/idea to submit start a new thread in the 'All Things Gardening' forum.

As soon as 3 articles or idea have been posted, dave will create a new forum just for articles and ideas.

So far myself (greene) and @joannakat have entered articles/idea. When dave has some free time he will create the new forum and the articles/ideas will be moved to the new forum.

See the conversation here:
https://garden.org/thread/view...

As an incentive I (greene) have offered 15 acorns to the first 3 people who submit articles/ideas...so get cracking!! Jump in and submit something. Hurray!

YES! But I think this might be a better link to the whole string: The thread "Ideas: Where and how to post?" in Site Talk forum

You can see the new Articles / ideas here: https://garden.org/forums/view...

I've been writing "Article: Idea" in my subject heading so that they'll be easy to find, especially for @dave when he's ready. I think @green did too (?)

Can't wait to see other's ideas too! I love them! Lovey dubby

Yes, I (greene) decided to add the word "Article" in front so people could easily find it. Of course, I forgot to take into consideration that NGA member @crawgarden likes to make posts about interesting articles found on the internet, so don't confuse those with the Articles/Ideas posted by the NGA members.

Now if only we could get more members to add some new articles/ideas. Thumbs up @joannakat has added plenty, greene has added one to get us started...where is everyone else who was clamoring for this to happen? I guess most are busy with life in general and some are recovering from or battening down the hatches for hurricanes. Whistling

I'm somewhat disturbed by the fact that there is no longer a link -- at least not one that is obvious -- to the many articles and ideas that were previously submitted by members and published on the site. (They can be found, however, by clicking on "gardening news" under the "community" tab at the top of the page.)

If a new forum is started where members can post articles, maybe all of those previous articles could also be incorporated there?

I'm sure many of our members in Florida and in Texas are busy with severe weather stuff--shout out to all of you who are dealing with these difficult events. Above all, please stay safe. Group hug

For the rest of us, don't forget that sometimes, the simplest things are wonderful ideas too! A while ago, someone posted a very simple idea--keep a pair of gardening shoes by your door so that you can slip into them on the way out, and slip out of them on your way in! One sentence, one picture. And it would have been equally as good without the picture! Here it is:
https://garden.org/ideas/view/...

So please remember, even the simple ideas are helpful! You don't need circles, arrows, pictures or diagrams to post a useful idea! If something makes your life easier, it will probably do so for others too. Smiling

And, in addition to two devastating hurricanes, there are also massive wildfires to contend with in the west.

Right! And you're there @Bonehead. My son is in Seattle and last night he reported ash in the air making it difficult for some people to breathe. He also said everything smells smoky. He's staying inside as much as possible.

Hopefully, autumn will bring relief to all.

Meanwhile, any ideas about how to protect your plants, especially veggies that aren't ready to be harvested, when something like this happens? How do you clean the ash off them once it's over, which hopefully, it will be soon? Does the taste of fire remain?

Stay safe Bonehead. Group hug

Initially I had planned to write some stuff. But as I think I mentioned, a lot of things that came to mind I'd already talked about in some forum or another. Or maybe I was just talking to myself. Or dreaming. I'll have to figure that part out. @greene — are you still going to toss some acorns?

I think it's okay if you've already posted about them....they're still your ideas and this way, they would go into one central place for others to find in the future. I encourage you to write them up and post them as Article: Idea-- so that Dave can easily find them.

Okay, I posted an article. The thread "Article: Extending The Life of Your Coir Hanging Pots" in Gardening Ideas forum

Now I'm the third person (or second, not counting you, greene), but does @joannakat get 45 acorns bc she posted three articles? Whistling Whistling Angel

@bloominholes2fill,
Thank you for posting an article. Thank You!

If you had added the @ and the name greene I might have seen this sooner. I've been a bit busy preparing for the storm (that has been downgraded after I did all the dang preparations).

I have sent your acorns, thank you. And no, @joannakat did not receive a glut of acorns even though she worked her butt off for the cause; my offer was 15 acorns to the first 3 people, not for the first 3 articles/ideas, so each of the 3 people who posted received their acorns. Thumbs up

Now all we have to do is wait for @dave to find some free time in his schedule to create the new forum for articles/ideas. Thumbs up Hurray!

Awwww shucks.... *Blush* I'm very happy and honored to receive the acorns. Thank You! again for that.

And yes, yaay! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Both for what @dave will do when he can, for the newest articles / ideas, and most of all, for the downgrading of the storm.

And BTW, I love that you're coding your posts @greene!
