Glen, I wouldn't have wanted to give that one up either, but it would have been nice if the seller could have told you the name of it. Wonder why they couldn't do that? Seems like they should know what they are selling. Oh well, it's a keeper!

Sorry. The little plants that grow out of the scapes. I can't remember what they are formally called. Lots of people call them "pups" across the plant groups.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.
Interesting and odd that the seller couldn't identify it. On three separate occasions, I had bonus plants come up as something very different from what they were named. Wrote the seller each time and he immediately identified them for me. They were each in beds next to the one for which the plant was originally labeled. But, I agree with you that it is worthwhile in its own right no matter what the name.

Debra, yes it was a bit of a saga. He couldn't even remember or find my order. Then he became seriously ill. It was easy to forgive because he was always very generous in the number of fans he sent per cultivar - 2-4.
Lovely photos Michele.

Thanks Mike.
TINY PUMPKIN is reblooming for me. I look round the garden and see only a few blooms now. I love the months August to December with my daylilies. I feel alive going between plants and being surprised by the new and beguiled by the familiar. But end it will.

Those are proliferations, but I like the name pups, too!

Thanks Mike. No, I used to write popular natural history articles, and do some film, television and radio, but mostly research papers. However, writing is a lot of work with little financial rewards. I am now perfecting being a grumpy old man with no money but lots of daylilies. The last two are unfortunately interrelated. A big order should arrive tomorrow - fingers crossed. Can hardly wait to see what I got and tell everyone!

Rust. I remember reading about it and the problems in America - always with a bit of a smile that it won't happen here. Then one day it was just there. I couldn't believe it. I don't know if it arrived on one of my bought plants. Now after 6 years some of the plants are coping better, some are quite resistant but some I don't know what to do with. How have other people coped with rust who have semis and evergreens? With the worst hit cultivars, should one just pull up and incinerate?
I don't leave any old leaves about anymore. Also I periodically clean the plants up by removing infected foliage and burning it. I spray but I don't see any obvious results.
One of my worst hit was Hearts and Lace. It always flowers well but I think it suffers from chlorophyll deprivation and is not a great bush.

Gleni, you should get a lot of tips here from the folks in the warmer climate concerning "RUST". Us folks in the colder climate will only get it when we get plants from the warmer climate. The cold winter kills it so we don't have to worry about it come spring. Most people in the north pot up the new plants and keep them isolated till the late fall to see if they are infected. Some have a special in ground area for the same thing. I suspect that you got it from your new incoming plant(s). If you have the means you might want to do that with the new plants you have coming.

Gee, if you accidentally hit the back arrow on the browser it all goes and you have to retype all this.
Two more of the Australian Scott Alexander. They are unregistered from what I can see.
