Doris and everyone,

I have seen that sometimes a page will just sit there, this is any website, and say, "loading" forever. I get impatient, and click the x, stopping the load. Then I hit the Enter key on my keyboard, starting the page load again, and that makes the page load quickly.

Maybe this will work for you.

I don't do this when I am uploading a photo. I just go do something else, or get up from the computer and enter Real Life for a bit, before my addiction drags me back to the screen.

Yes, Wilfred has been breeding Hibiscus for a while, and lately his first "babies" have started blooming. We'll just have to start fiddling with Hibiscus! I need to do some deleting, as I posted wrongly.

Mellisa I don't think you'll have any problem growing Hibs I grow them here and its hot and Humid the only thing that hurts them is a freeze all of mine are leafless right now because of a freeze but I tri them back and they come right back. I am going to take some cutting this year because I am redoing the beds mine are in and I am not sure they will survive being transplanted. But the ones I have are hardy and I have two in pots that are shaped like trees and one saucer Hib that has beutiful huge lavender blooms. I just wish I had as good luck with my DR seeds as with cuttings starts. Oh well I'm learning.

Often "hardy" is a plant that must have cooling or what they call chilling.

Plus the days/nights here are nearly equal all year, varying by 11/13 summer to winter, meaning either 11 hours light, 13 hours dark in winter, and vise versa in the summer. I've tried to grow buddlea twice, butterfly bush, but they bloom and bloom and get littler and littler and just fade away.

But I see Wilfred has some seeds started, he posted a photo on DG. That man ought to have a couple of big greenhouses, and some helpers! See his babies here:

Ron, could you post a photo of the Lavender bloom? If you have one.

I'm wondering if Mr. Quiles has lost his way back here. I was much too enthused about his blooms only thread, must replace that silly underwater photo with a named hibiscus. The only names I've found here on St Croix are "red" "Orange" "Pink" and etc. Guess I'll have to join our Hibiscus Society.

A "pink Mealybug" invaded the whole Caribbean a few years ago, making a mess of hibiscus. Some hibs are still around, but many died from the infestation of this nearly invisible tiny bug that twists and deforms plants, especially hibiscus.. Oh Ugh!

Such a pretty flower! Looks really big, too.

See:

http://www.hiddenvalleyhibiscu...

about tropical versus hardy. Tropical are that, tropical, can't handle cold. Like me!!

I am going to try to grow some hardy's here, but it might be too hot and dry. And they might need to die back, I don't know. Gets to 68 degrees and we're all wearing sweatshirts and jackets!

Some of my smaller DRs are going into the ground tomorrow. The tiny seedlings that Wilfred sent me are just not growing. And of course, I watered them too much, so those that are better at soaking up water did what they're good at, and made piggies of themselves, my fault! And rotted. Boooo

I have a couple of the hardy ones, white with pink center and a red one like Rucky's. I do have a tropical in the house right now waiting for warmer weather so it can go outside for the summer. : ) I'ts just a baby so hasn't flowered yet for me.

Hurray! I have finally gone from DR seed killer to DR seed starter. I had put about six seeds in a lightly dampened paper towel and put it inside a baggie on top of my frige and I forgot about them so I pulled them down today and 4 of them germinated so I mixed up some loose soil and planted them they are in the sunlight on the patio. I'll bring them in tonight. None of my other methods worked I was about to pull my hair out then bam back in business. Now if I just don't kill em with love I may have found a way to seed starting bliss. Thumbs up

I also have a varigated hibiscus that doesn't have any flowers right now it just got all of its leaves back on it from one bad night. The leaves are all green I hope they change back to color they were. The flower is small but beutiful and in contrast with the varigated leaves it is beutiful. I'll look for a pic from last year I know I have one somewhere. If not I take some later when it blooms again.

Hooray, happy for you, Rucky!

Be as gentle as you can with the babies, their roots are brittle. I know I don't even have to say that!

Good luck, and let us know how they're doing.

Hibiscus are fickle, too.

Sheesh, maybe i'll start growing ragweed, but i guess that is fickle too.

I got a real good crop of creeping charlie growing out by the septic tank. But I got rid of the rag weed it made me sneeze.
I took my DR plants out of the room they were in because the weather has been so nice lately and put them on the patio later that day my wife told me they didn't look so good. The were getting direct sunlight after months in a dim room so I moved them to the shade. I'll leave them in the GH for a while and slowly aclimate them to the patio. Now I'm scared to move my succulents out to the patio. I think I put them in the GH for a while too.
Oh and by the way I am great at growing dollar weed I just wish it was worth a dollar!
