If you could grow only one vegetable, one that would provide the most nutrition for you and your family, what would it be?

Thanks Sharon.

I never make my own pizza, just go buy at the local pizza shop. They make the best pizza but I have no idea what herbs they use. I guess I am not too adventurous with my chicken either. I just season it with Adobo. I am defiantly not a very good cook!

Fresh basil is wonderful with tomatoes, too, Rita! I like to slice tomatoes and onions, toss in some fresh basil leaves and top with a little oil and vinegar dressing. Yum!

abhege said:Mmmmm, rosemary! I have two huge plants. Sell some and use it on baked chicken, roasted veggies, lots of things! It is a perennial for me though but maybe not for you. But you could put in a pot and bring in for winter. I would have rosemary even if I never cooked with it because i love the smell and I think I just read somewhere that just smelling it is healthy!

Oh Arlene! No bringing pots indoors for me. Plants belong outside! Rolling on the floor laughing

Me too about the rosemary, Arlene. I love it on roasted veggies too, forgot about that.

It grows outside here, year round and will last about 3 or 4 years then I have to start it all over again. We have ups and downs in our weather patterns so often, I think the sudden changes simply decrease its life span, but I usually do have at least two plants growing just in case I lose one. I usually keep them close to the house and out of the wind. They won't grow as big here as there, but just big enough for all I need. Pretty when they bloom too.

[quote="Sharon"]Whip up the cornbread batter and spoon it into hot olive oil or whatever kind of cooking oil you use. When one side is browned, then flip like a pancake onto the other till it's browned, too. ]

That's the only kind of cornbread, Sharon. You know it!

You know, I don't think. I've ever seen mine bloom. I usually pin down a few branches to start a new plant. I did start some new from seed this year though.

Rita, last year I. Took tons of basil to market and made small and large bundles. Just brushed up against it while people were approaching and they just had to stop and smell it. And they usually bought some too! Hilarious!

Oh yes! One of the best things about growing basil (and tomatoes, too, for that matter!) is brushing up against the leaves and INHALE! Swoon!

I toast an English muffin, a dab of mayo, sliced tomato, chopped basil and a sprinkling of fresh parmesean and broil lightly. Heaven!

Oh yes indeed! We who were born and raised in KY know about good old Southern cornbread. Nothing I've had over the years has even come close.

Great marketing technique, Arlene. Makes me smile. Smell is so powerful.

I have to confess, I love the jiffy mix corn bread, and yes, it has sugar. But I can't have chili without my cornbread muffins.

Cook? One of my favorite things is to just smear pesto (from the grocery store, thank you!) onto sourdough bread. Chomp! If I'm feeling energetic, I'll grab some parmesan to sprinkle on top.

I've used the Jiffy mixes from time to time too if I make corn sticks in the cast iron corn stick pan.
