Calin!

Just lift lightly at the tip;............trim all nose hairs and sleep with a clove of garlic under your right nostril on a full Moon. Your smell will return. I tip my hat to you. Hilarious!

Anybody know how to root this plant? I've cut branches off the main plant and would love to root them. Any suggestions?

Bev,
The old fashion way is to take a stem and make a small break or partial cut and bury it into the ground or place a stone on it so it makes contact with the ground.
In you case, place a flower pot next to the plant and place a stem into the ground of the pot. In a month or so, it should have roots. Rootone or similar can help.

So David, you have experienced C A L G O N...??? Hilarious!

Ok, the plant...Thing is, using what I have experienced, I tried the callousing, the placing on top of damp soil and waited and waited and...nothing.
So cut new branches, removed bottom mini branches, calloused, and stuck into soil and will be waiting and waiting ....fingers crossed.
Plant grows fast and does a lot of branching so if you have to fill a space, it does the job with its interestingly shaped leaves and colorful stems... nodding

In case I wasn't clear, you can not break the stem off the plant. It is still connected. That way it is still getting fed while it's developing it's own roots. Almost like 'Air Layering'.

Oh, air layering!!! If you had mentioned those words I would have gotten it (like what is used in dracaena propagation). I get it Care; will try to figure out the logistics to that one and try it! Thanks much!

I am doing the 'Air Layering' thing on my 'Tri-Color Beech' tree. I nicked a young stem, a little Rootone and peat moss wrapped in black plastic around the wound. Kept moist all summer last year. Going to remove when I see growth on the stem. Hope I see roots.
I'll add a picture if I do. If not I will rewrap and let it set longer. First time for me on this.

I need to try that as well - I have failed to get a cutting to take off of my Passifloras, air layering is almost the only option left.
In the end, only kindness matters.

Science is not the answer, it is the question.

Trying again with Lithops: I think I know now my previous mistake..fingers crossed with these ones:

Got this nice shaped Sansevieria patula, at least that is what the tag says. I like the cylindrical growth.

Well this one just looks nice, and is a California native, so it went home with us as well: Coreopsis gigantea, said to be deciduos in summer, which is good, since it is too dry here, and will come back to life again during winter and spring. At least I still get to enjoy it for awhile that it is still awake.

And from HD a jovivarba heuffelii hybrid...will try this one too..my first one in the garden:

Great score. The Sansevieria's correct name is S. cylindrica v. patula I believe.

Thanks Hetty Smiling The name of the Sans and its nice appearance caught my eye...in my native tongue, patula, which we spell this way patola -refers to the vegetable sponge gourd. Looking at the Sans..well, it does look like a patola, with its cylindrical growth. Hilarious!

I also finally got to repot my Echeveria 'Black Prince'..finally has its own throne Big Grin
