Ok, Alma has deserted me on Trivia, so I'm going to post the next question. Whoever answers it correctly can take the next Trivia question.

During the fifteenth century, the rose was used as a symbol for the factions fighting to control England.

The white rose symbolized York.

Whom did the red rose symbolized?

And as a result, what did the conflict became known as?

Got it.
White Rose of York.
Red Rose of Lancaster.
The War of Roses.

.... starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

I'll be back with a question... At work so time is crunched.

Alan, I'm here and as much as I liked the question, I love your signature tag! I'm going to do my best to be cheerful today. (I got a horrid case of food poisoning - at least that's my guess - and it's been hard to be happy for the last few days.)

Susie, I thought of that movie as soon as I saw the question. It sticks out in my mind as one of the most frustrating and dark movies I've ever seen.

I've never seen that movie. I guess I'm going to have to rent it and watch it. I looked at the trailers, looks good, but can't see what it has to do with the 15th century or the true war or roses. So was a bit disappointed. I guess what I'm saying is I think I would have enjoyed a movie reflecting the 15th century more. Like Danny Divito though, so going to check it out. :)

Alma, sorry to hear about your food poisening!!!

Susie, since you pitched in for me, I'll take this turn.

Alan, it's not 15th century, but 16th. What famed painting depicts the first China rose known in Europe? For more fun, name the artist and discuss the painting. Hilarious!

Well, since no one else is answering I will answer.

The painting is Allegory with Venus and Cupid, 1529. It was painted by the Florentine Angelo Bronzino.

Great trivia question, interesting read.

OT. I love your quote today, Alan. Reminds me of the other day when I was at Walgreens. A couple of about 70-something were strolling around the store. She stopped to look at some very cushy plastic balls about 10 inches in diameter... he kept walking. She called his name "Frank!" ... he turned toward her and she tossed him one of the balls like a basket ball toss. He caught it and they laughed. So cute.

LOL! I love it when stuff like that happens. My Mom and Stepdad were like that. They will get out of the car to go into the grocery store or whatever, and they would start skipping just like we did as kids. I use to skip with them. life is to short to get old!!!

Hey, there is my quote to life if someone hasn't used it already. "Life is to short to get old -- Alan Zelhart" As it is said, let it be written.

In Greek mythology, what goddess is said to have created the rose, which arose from her tears and the blood of her lover.

What is the goddess name?
Who was her lover?

uhjjjy8gvrdeff.... Never mind, the cat is typing! Anyhow, this led to some very interesting reading, Alan. I loved Greek and Roman mythology as a kid - and I actually remember some of it. Hilarious! I'll wait for some other players to come along here. Thanks for a nice diversion this morning.
