I saw it about 5 years ago but I don't recall the name. I wouldn't pass kindergarten because I can't remember anything anymore.

From Tombstone: http://www.tombstonechamber.co...

Various sites claim it covers 8,000 - 9,000 square feet. It's been years since I've been there but it covered an entire city block at that time. Apparently, it has a rival in England, the Kiftsgate Rose.

Dan, I do believe it's your turn!

Gosh, I just assumed everyone had seen the World's largest tree in Tombstone, Arizona. An incredible experience, especially when it's in bloom. I have pictures somewhere, I'll have to see if I can find them and post them. I took some friends who don't get out much, down there to see it. We stayed at Priscilla's bed and breakfast inn, which is now closed as far as I know, there website is gone.

So now, when I go down, I stay at the Stage Coach Inn. I go down there at least once a year, and spend the day milling around, stay the night at the Stage Coach Inn, in John Wayne's room. Literally, it was where he stayed when they were doing a country and western movie down there. You MUST make reservations. The rest the rooms at the Stage Coach Inn are very small. John Waynes Room is very nice and roomy. You can walk down town for all the festivities and walk back to the inn. I always have a great time.

I've stayed in John Wayne's room at the Copper Queen in Bisbee. We had an intruder.... Mickey Mouse. Love to see that monsterous rose bush one day.

I have spent a couple of hours looking for the answer to my rose trivia question and I think, unbelievably, there may not be anyone that knows the answer.

See if you can find it, but beware, I don't have the answer!

How many roses are used to decorate all of the floats in the 2010 (or any other year) Tournament Of Roses Parade?

I couldn't even find out how many for 1 float!

LOL, Boo! It's funny, Dan, that it's hard to find that out. Every year when the floats go by, the hosts tell us how many seeds, blooms, leaves, etc. are used to make the float. Wonder why no one tallies them up?

You would think that somebody would. I checked Guinness World Records but because I'm not a member my search there was limited.

"Beginning in April, vendors from around the world begin receiving orders for flowers to be delivered prior to the completion of the float in late December. One float may require between 400 and 500 varieties of flowers
and millions of individual blooms. Many are specially grown to meet the needs of the float they will be used on. Flowers must be ready to go and delivered within a one-week window prior to the parade, with some arriving the morning of the parade."
-Groupon.com

This article didn't list any numbers other than varieties.

Isn't that something! And they didn't specify roses but just flowers.

Alan if this is taking this thread to far off track we can continue this discussion in another thread.

No worries, I'm cool with it. I remember reading one thread that said one float has more flowers on it than a florist will use in five years, and thought that was incredible! I'm just sad it's a trivia question with no answer...yet anyway. I did email them at the official rose bowl parade website and ask, but I doubt they will return my email with the answer.

From wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T...

It is estimated that it takes 60 volunteers working 10 hours a day for 10 days to decorate one float.[2]
Float builders

* 20 daisies, 30 roses or 36 marigolds will cover one square foot of a float area
* Over 500,000 roses (in vials) used in the parade

Thanks, Dan; I now know more about the Rose Bowl Parade and the floats than I ever needed to know! For instance, I always wondered what happened to the floats after the parade. Seems they're parked for visitor viewing for a day or two.

" Post-parade: A Showcase of Floats

Presented by the Eastman Kodak Company with supporting sponsor Bayer Advanced, the Showcase is a paid admission area where the floats are displayed after the parade, for close-up viewing. The parade floats are parked along Sierra Madre and Washington Boulevards in Pasadena for three hours after the parade. On the day after the parade, there are two hours reserved for seniors and the disabled, and a day's worth for the general public."

I wonder what kind of compost all those flowers would make? Then have probably been treated with a lot of chemicals.

Just for everyone's information, and maybe why we can't find the info on the web...here is the official response from the Rose Bowl Parade coordinators: I've removed the email addresses to protect the innocent from the spam bots.

Hello Alan,

Thank you for your interest in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.
Unfortunately, we do not have an answer for you either. There is no
official number of roses as each float is decorated by an individual
builder, and there are thousands upon thousands of various flowers used.

We can say that on average, 600 tons of steel, 5,000 gallons of glue and
18 million flowers are used to make the floats each year.

Hope this helps! I'm sorry we do not have better news for you.

Best,

Your friends at the Pasadena Tournament of Roses
