If they moved all of their stock from Texas to Wisconsin, those are gonna be some stout ones and pretty good in hot, dry conditions, too.

I spent the morning working on my plant list.
I have a question - when I listed several irises, there was no photo attached to them in the database. These were ordered this year, so I wasn't able to include my own photo, so I went to the growers' sites and uploaded their photos. Is that kosher? They are being shown as my photos, and all I did was add others' photo. Both were commercial growers.

Nope, that is for sure a no no! I don't know for sure how to tell you to do it correctly but I do know you can't do that. You need to contact the admin and let them know what you did so they can remove/edit the photos.

Thanks, Zuzu. All other photos posted here are mine! I just wanted to i.d. these recent purchases. And there were no i.d. photos in the plant base. Learned my lesson!

Jan, might ask Sue her protocol for including vendor photos. She uploads with credit given to the seller/hybridizer/vendor, but I do not know how she secures that permission.

At this point, I am with Jan in the Tappyfooty mode. I have three shipments left to come and since I was planting my new bed today, I found it frustruating to anticipate where the "missing" iris fit in.

Couldn't resist and just bought several more iris - keeping it in-house!
I bought Tom Johnson by Paul Black. I have Paul Black by Tom Johnson. Both are purple with bright yellow/orange beards. Are these
guys friends? Both irises have won many awards. I'm going to plant them side-by-side. Intrigued. There must be a story in this.

I have Paul Black, it's a really nice one, don't have Tom Johnson though. You're really getting some irises this year!

If you contact the Iris seller, they might be interested in uploading their photos. Often times the computer nerd or marketing person is happy to have free postings/advertising.

Tom Johnson is MidAmerica Gardens -- and he represents Paul Black's new introductions. I was under the impression that they are business partners, of sorts........

Cool Linnea!!! BTW -- did I ever tell you that my Mom wanted my name to be Linnea? After I was born, she kept waiting for them to bring in the paperwork to name the baby -- and they didn't -- so she finally asked -- and was told "oh, your husband named the baby already". She asked "He did? What did her name her?" And they told her "He named her after you -- Mary Ann".

It seems that he was late to the hospital, and by the time he got there, I was already born. So he thought it fitting that I be named after my mother. Lovey dubby And so I was.

The story became part of the family lore -- and so a generation later, my sister named her middle daughter Kaitlyn Lynnea. It's a beautiful name -- and is the name of a Swiss mountain flower. :smily:

Cool beans on the swag from the Maine Iris Auction!! Thumbs up

Linnaea Borealis grows in Switzerland too, but I was named after the Swedish Botanist Carolus Linnaeus (well, actually after a Swedish friend of my Swedish mother who was named after the botanist). It was one of his favorite flowers. It is elk fodder.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L...

Be grateful you were not named Linnea. It is rarely pronounced correctly. Even in the movie, "Linnea in Monet's Garden", it is pronounced wrong. Glare

After most of my teachers said it wrong for whole school years, I became Lyn.

I will have to get some Linnea flowers when my evergreen garden has grown enough for forest plants...gonna put it on my want list. Rolling my eyes.

Paul Black started Mid-America in Oklahoma......hence the name. I bought medians from him in the late 70's or early 80's that came from OK. The rhizomes were huge.... small clumps. At some point the business moved to Oregon for better growing conditions and maintained the Mid-America name. Paul Black and Tom Johnson were partners and both introduced for a number of years with Paul running the business. A couple of years ago Thomas took over the business end while still hybridizing while Paul stepped back from the business end and is mainly focusing on hybridizing . Both have introduced a number of wonderful cultivars including TBs and some great medians.
