I think those who over bid at our auctions do so to support the club. Also some friendly competition. A friend and I are the auctioneers and I hate to let prices get to high if we have 2 or more starts of the same cultivar......

I brought my wish list and didn't veer off of it much unless the deal was really good. I was very happy to get the Japanese Iris. Y'all can have some in a few years. Hurray!

Paul -- do you announce ahead of time that there are multiples of a given cultivar? I would think that might discourage bidding enthusiasm? Conundrum.

You don't have shipping costs when bidding at an auction. Shipping can cost as much or more than the item!

At our auction, the only reason I was able to get some was because there were multiples.. If there were three, then the last three people holding up their biding cards each got one.. It seems the Keppel and Tom Johnson introductions were the hottest tickets... and also some of the Blyth intros..

Mary Ann.....If an iris is a little older and I think the bidding is about at a fair price and we have multiples I take it upon myself to stop the bidding and offer a second or third rhizome to the last bidders for the same price, If the ones left are much smaller I may knock off a dollar or two. If they are new or in high demand I let the bidding go. Not everyone likes this policy but if they object they can tie a can to me and get a new auctioneer next year. I love making money for the club but don't want to be greedy.

It is so hard not having a computer at home (the two I had both "blew up"). I went to the DVIS Iris rhizome sale Saturday (Delaware Valley Iris Society) (where i met Pam aka "Snork"). Had a great time selling irises, but was not able to do much talking to Pam and the others. Need a better situation to talk shop.

Got these beauties from Pam.

Dang, I could have traded you some Edith Wolford! Glad you got to meet Pam! Hurray! Hope you had some good sales of your irises so you had cash after your new purchases. Smiling You sure got a nice little grouping of peach/yellow/orange with Idol's Dream/Beyond/Honeycomb/Let's Boogie. Lovey dubby

I always wondered why some bidders would go over catalogue retail, but now I understand the saving on the shipping, etc. And of course the donation to the club. I guess I now would go over the catalogue price, but my club usually picks the vendor Mid America, and I always order from them anyway, so shipping wouldn't matter much to me.

I was "selling" for the club/iris society, so I made no money. Nay, I spent money.

I got three from the sale.

Dewuc Whatic
Grateful Citizen (one of my "missing" Innerst cultivars!)
Fantasy in Pink (this is a 2014 intro!!!!)

I also was given this one:

Maria Malibran

I think we all who were left at the end got one of these.

Sorry, it was unclear that you were selling for the club. Hope you made money for them!

Maria will be pretty with that grouping from Pam. Thumbs up And Dewuc is wonderful! Look forward to your pics of Grateful Citizen and Fantasy in Pink. What is the coloration on Grateful Citizen?

This is in the "gallery" section of the website (there is a section of my pictures which are probably duplicates of pictures I have posted here)

Here is a link to their site. Lots of cool pictures and neat information.

I was looking it up for a bunch of customers ( I was using my Iphone and was using ATP's iris database) and noticed it was a 2014 intro. There were alot of it on the table. I "sold" it well and just did grab the last one.

No where near getting all of them. It will be pretty imposible to do so as his early work were boring "selfs" that were done in the late 70s and early 80s. He did 209 introductions. At last count I had 117. But this does not take into account this years bloom season where I had mis-identified cultivars that bloomed for the first time.

I did get three large boxes of iris to go towards my local Iris Societies sale this weekend. There are about 75 cultivars with a total of about 225+ rhizomes.

This sale is in the North Hanover Mall. Maybe "DaveinPA" will show up and I can check him off of my ATP list! Rolling on the floor laughing
