Those are some sweet little baby eagles you've got there, Ursula. Gorgeous plant, Cousin It returns in time for Halloween?

Elaine, unfortunately Cousin It kicked the bucket. It simply declined I think last Summer and died on me. My other Rhipsalis still grew perfectly fine in the meanwhile.

Want your orchids, Ursula and Jim. The truck would be good to have too.

Noid flowering for me at the moment. I saw a huge clump on the ground in someone's garden late last year. They gave me a stalk (showing my sophisticated orchid knowledge) and it has grown well. Any ideas what it could be? I hope I haven't asked this before. My brain has a mind of its own sometimes.

It is lovely, Glen. Was that a really long stalk/spike? Like 3 feet or so?

Hmm, I am trying to get a name for it, Glen, but I am striking out.

Anyone has a name for this? Or perhaps a "direction"?

I'm lousy at names, as you all know . . . but it looks a little bit like Laelia anceps to me. Colors are close, but this one has longer petals. They do make big lusty colonies on tree branches and old logs on the ground here.

I know Glen already has one though because I just looked it up in the Database, and his is the only picture of it.

Elaine, I'm doing well. Just scaling back on the orchids as I haven't been able to take care of then properly due to my health. But I'm hanging in there.

Ahh, you thought L anceps x or similar too? If those blooms are on long spikes..... I don't see any pseudobulbs in Glen's picture? I am not so good on names either!

Hi Melanie! you must have read my mind. I haven't seen you around lately and I missed your posts!

I've been out all day but I will look for a name for Glen's orchid a little later. Looks like it has some purpurata in it.

Melanie, welcome back as we missed you. We are gearing up for an Apopka run in November. Keep in touch.

Here's one that looks pretty similar, what do you think, Glen?
http://www.sborchid.com/plantd...

The only things inconsistent with yours is the length of the stems, and yours has tall pseudobulbs. Maybe since this is a division blooming for the first time that's why the stems are shorter?

Do you recall if the flowers on the original clump had longer stems?

Hey Melanie, glad to hear from you and feel better soon, huh? Jim just can't put out the flaming shoes . . . we need to shop!!

Hmm, Laelia anceps has fairly fat pseudobulbs.
Still looking….

Looks similar to a bifoliate bowringiana cross I had years ago, but the name escapes me. Sorry.

I'm adding that this also has schmo, the PB and wavy petals and sepals.this is a fun guess. I am adding a schmo x to compare.

A few bloomers for me today, my NOID onc smells really nice, and I like the funny little bud at the bottom of the second pic, looks like a bumble bee. Yellow Birds always blooming somewhere and Zygolum Rhein Harlequin with one bloom on its second spike lasting nicely in the cooler weather.

I still like Yellow Bird but that Zygo is pretty too.

C. bicolor 'Lines' AM/AOS X L. undulata has now fully opened. If this flower doesn't look like a Schomburgkia then I give up.

I thought Big George (Lc. George Baldwin X C. Trithena) would pout for a while since I lopped about a third of him off for Elaine. Not true as this is the second flush since the surgery.

It sure does look like a Schomburgkia! I see both C bicolor and Schom undulata in your hybrid. Very nice!
And Big George is always a beauty, I love the color and the shape is good too.

It's an amazing Schom baby there, Jim and btw are you submitting some of your fabulous photos to the Photo Contest? You really do take calendar shots most of the time with your nice background and lighting.

So glad Big George forgave you for amputating his evil twin. I am keeping a close eye on the e.t. out in the garden for spikes, but getting ready to fly out on Tuesday to attend my granddaughter's birthday, so will have to move him to make sure he gets watered while I'm away. Only so much I can ask Marsh to do when he's home babysitting orchids for me.

Hasn't the weather been fabulous, and SO dry lately!

Hi everyone! I've been so busy enjoying outside and the greenhouse that I haven't posted as much. Lots of bloom spikes working in the GH. Can't wait!! We are trying to scurry around to make sure we are ready for the first cold weather. Supposedly we will drop to the 30s next week for one night. We may fire up the RMH for the first time!
