Happy Halloween, everyone!

Now, once all the trick or treat candy is gone, we can enjoy the candy sales at our favorite stores. There should be some good deals to be had.

I am hoping to find a markdown bag of M&Ms Candy Corn. Looks yummy. My best friend works at that company and periodically sends me coupons. Which, since I have mild Diabetes, I (usually) give away to my sister or to the grocery cashiers who are extra helpful; but would have kept that one for sure!

Have a chicken leg quarter almost thawed in the 'fridge, trying to decide how I want to cook it today.

I love fresh greens, but can only manage to keep them for about two weeks, so I don't dare buy more than I can eat in that time period. Yeah, near the end of the two weeks, I am preparing "old" veggies and greens for the freezer to use in soups during the winter months, but the first part of the month having fresh greens, vegetables and fruits is pure bliss. I also end up making soups and veggie filled casseroles for the freezer. Anything to save the good stuff.

I need to be careful too. That's actually a wonderful side benefit of being out in the garden all day--i do less snacking when I'm out there!

I've found I do less snaking simply because I can't buy that stuff up here.

However, I can get my chocolate fix by visiting the hotel in town that sells truffles. I can buy one --- yeah, it's over priced, too .... and take it home and eat just slivers of it for hours to make it last and last and not worry about binging on a whole box of excellent candy.

Smiles,
Lyn

Ah chocolate addictions! I do my best not to buy it personally but somehow with a 13 year old in the house it is always around anyway. ('Sweetie didn't you want me to buy you some more mint chocolate chip ice cream?') Whistling

Made scrambled eggs with cheese, chopped fresh tomato, and seasoned potatoes for a late breakfast (had to go dig up a shrub first). Now that I don't work, I don't have to eat first thing. Finding out that, if I work outside or have computer stuff to look at for a couple of hours, then eat later in the morning, I don't eat as much the rest of the day as I used to. Still eat way too much, mind you, but not AS much. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Yesterday was so busy running around I didn't eat well, so at the end of the day I was famished for real food (as opposed to hummus spread on a piece of bread, for instance.) I sauteed a little diced onion in olive oil, chopped up three small potatoes and a wedge of cabbage and put that in there with a couple glugs of vegetable broth and cooked it up with some salt, and ate it with a dolop of sour cream. Very filling!

For breakfast I had a croissant from the grocery store and a bowl of raspberries from Trader Joe. I later had a half peanut butter sandwich and just polished off three of those little Milky Way bars. I'd go down to the kitchen for something else but the gal who cleans for us is bustling around down there so I am staying out of the way.

I'm going to try that potato-cabbage mix, sounds good.

Fried the chicken leg quarter, had it with brussel sprouts and sliced tomato.

Sister took me to the store this morning and I had a coupon for a free bag of Snickers/Milky Way/Twix unwrapped mini bites. It's calling to me... Sticking tongue out

Edited to add: I got the Twix. :-D

Started a nice meal in the crockpot. Chuck steak pot roast style. I add potatoes and onion to the mix and it makes a complete on pot meal.

Lily had a nice healthy treat meal for breakfast. Sliced raw beef heart. She loved it.

Ah, pot roast! Yum!

My plans for the day fell through, but everyone's gone from the house now so I should probably just enjoy the peace and quiet.

I'm eating a pear and the end of a piece of gouda.

I tried the cut of meat they usually make pot roast from but didn't like it that much. I really love to make the chuck steak this way as the flavor is excellent and it turns out so tender. Meat just about falls apart.

As to Lily, I like to give my dog raw meat sometimes. Usually chicken gizzards.

I have tried so many times to make pot roast with some other cut than chuck. Never turns out as good though. Just came home from Shoprite with a nice one for this week.
