Breakfast is two big leaves of my kale, that were just reaching out to me this morning! sauted in olive oil with a tiny sprinkle of red pepper flakes and another tiny sprinkle of vinegar, then beaten eggs poured over and a handful of freshly grated pecorino romano cheese -- oh, and salt, have to have my salt.

Ah. So yummeh!!!

(This is the first Eating of the Kale.)

Well, check it out! Doesn't this look good enough to eat?

Those are in morning sun.

These below are in the shade, in a container across the yard, because I am hedging my bets!

Thumb of 2014-10-30/kylaluaz/b8e439 That's lacinato, a different variety.

And this is the same variety as in the first pictures, just, in the shade:
Thumb of 2014-10-30/kylaluaz/60982f

For most it's a kind of acquired taste, I guess, though I do know one person who says as a child she she used to eat raw greens out of the collander before her mom could even cook them! She'd sit at the kitchen table and just munch!

Cook kale like you cook collards (if you do) and that should be a good introduction.

Or don't, that just leaves more for me! Green Grin!

I just love eating something I grew and just took from the plant. It seems so much more vital!

No offense to all the kale lovers. Kale tastes aweful! Crying I know, I know. It is a superfood and very good for you but I will not be eating any.

I am sorry for you.

Hilarious! just kidding. And I am not wanting to push kale on anyone, but, is it okay if I share that I enjoy it? I mean, I know it's not chocolate, red wine, or even beer, or even steak or hamburger... And I confess I am a convert. I didn't used to be able to abide it. Tastes change, though. Sticking tongue out

Absolutely share what you enjoy--the thread is all about food, isn't it? Smiling Big Grin

I don't care for collard, mustard, or turnip greens, so I might not like cooked Kale, but I will try it. Thumbs up

I find that garlic and a touch of vinegar help a lot. Mustard and turnip greens can be quite bitter! Kale is a little less bitter....

For lunch, y'all might like to know, I had a ham and cheese sandwich and a handful of Halloween candy. nodding

Okay, will try it that way. Grocery trip is a week from Tuesday, get some then and let you know. Thumbs up

Yum, I looove ham. Had leftover lemon chicken stuff for breakfast. I'm still in the blender salsa phase, so I am sure that's what will be on the table for lunch. Hilarious!

I wish I did love kale. It is easy to grow and it is so good for you to eat. But I just don't enjoy it. I do love many sorts of greens, love a really nice mixed fresh salad from the garden. But not liking kale.

I think it is great for people that like it!

All this food talk, I ended up driving to Donkin Donuts and buying a cup of Hot Chocolate and one of their tuna salad sandwich croissants. Eating it now and drinking my Hot Chocolate.

Debra, cook the kale well; it can take a long time on the heat, unlike some other vegetables. Either sauteed or steamed -- and just keep adding liquid until it's at a consistency you like. A little hot pepper too might be nice.

Rita, yes, it is easy to grow which is one of its appeals for sure.

Most years in the past I've grown some baby salad greens in the fall. Didn't get that happening this year but I sure will in the spring.

My cafeteria at work offers a kale salad that I really like! I always think of Kyla now when I eat it. Smiling

I never thought I would like kale salad because kale can be rather tough, but I had some at my other cousin's house the other day, at his wife's birthday lunch, and it was really good. I sort of had to put some on my plate and then in my mouth because the gal who made it was sitting right next to me. Green Grin!

Now I have to get her recipe. I don't know what it was dressed with but it had toasted slivered almonds and finely chopped apple and some kind of grated cheese -- and that was it aside from the kale.

I'm honored you associate my name with your kale salad, Catmint. Hilarious!

Hilarious! It's a pretty good recipe they have--it has a nice, sweet flavor. Not sure what all they put in it--I should try to find out.

I go through spells where I cannot eat enough "southern style greens" the ones cooked with ham hock over a slow heat all day.... I know this is not exactly the healthiest way to eat kale but there's times when I can make a meal of nothing but that and a hunk of whole wheat bread.

OK, so let's get this straight, wine and chocolate are health foods, and gaining weight means you're adding muscle mass. That's the story and we're sticking to it, right? "Oh goodie, look, I gained 3 pounds of muscle this week! yay!"
I am not "country" I am "landed gentry."

Annie, I love greens cooked that way too! I just seem to have a habit of living with vegetarians who wouldn't eat anything with ham in it. Sticking tongue out So I've learned other ways.

And yes. Wine. Chocolate. Muscle mass. Check!

Hilarious!
