It took a few days for my first one (the one that I found when I was dumping out the dirt) to finally break ground, and it definitely had more than just a little tail. So try to be patient! Smiling

We've got half the new greenhouse up today .. what's left is the roof and doors .. once it's up and running I'll try my seeds with some GA3 on paper towels.

It will be interesting to see how your seeds fare, Anne. I'm wondering if we're trying to start them too early.

Does anyone recall a thread about starting seeds with blue light/filter? I vaguely remember something about that.

My most recent attempt: 6 seeds, soaked for about 5 to 6 hours in a solution of warm water and H202. Put in paper towel in baggie, and covered to provide darkness, set in warm location. 5 days later, signs of mold (!), but one seed with tail. Rinsed it off in a bit more water with H2O2 and planted in small pot. It broke ground today! Not sure now if that was two or three days after planting.

You know, I seem to recall quite some time back seeing reference to using a bit of iodine to prevent mold forming when sprouting morning glory seeds, but I just don't remember the details. I've been using the paper towel method for several years now, and I've never seen mold develop this quickly. I wonder if it's this particular type of seed or some weirdness with the brand of paper towels I'm using.

I'm going to say it's the seeds Woof, I've seen it happen with the MGs where one batch will mold and the others won't. It needs to be labeled "The most temperamental seed in the World"!

Maybe try spraying with lysol?

I placed 2 seeds in my germinator this morning. They are from the lot Ronnie is working with, so I am hopeful.

On this first attempt, I am using my morning glory seed method. I put a small amount of water from the tap into a clean container, just enough to have the water level come halfway up the seed. That is, half the seed has access to air, and other half is moist. I did not nick the seeds. After an hour the seeds are noticeably larger than when dry, so they have imbibed water.

Hooray for Woofie!

Thus far zilch for me😡. So got 4 more seeds, soaked in water/peroxide. One was noticeable plumber than the 3 - so nicked it. Placed in moist vermiculite and under bottom heat. Now the waiting begins.
Had some in wet paper towel and they got moldy too. Those did not germinate.

I stuck a few more seeds in warm water this morning. This time I put a drop of iodine in the water. Two of the seeds are from the last batch (they didn't feel soft, so I decided to give them a bit more time). I hit the others with a nail file. I have THREE plants so far! The first one is trying to take over the back porch. Hilarious!

So nicking the seed seems to be a critical step.
