Oh wow, they sure are tall! Nice, I'm going to have some dahlias this year I am getting in a trade. Thought I'd try some. Of course here they need to be dug up in the fall and re-planted in the spring.
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.

That is why I do not grow them anymore. Once you start growing them you want more and more. The fall chores get overwhelming if I am not very careful. I finally left them in the ground and after last winter they did not return at all.

I had come to the same decision, and just left them in the ground. Then they returned for the next 3 years, and last year looked so pretty I started digging them again.

you do what you can until you can't then you do something else. If I plant any more things that need to be dug I will plant them in small tubs and just shuttle them to safety in the fall. I will love to see photos this summer Neal. smiles

Here is a new one I bought at an iris sale. It was supposed to be Deep Dark Secret but It does not have that mustard beard that DDS has so it is a NoID.
It has a lot of huge blooms and seems to make a lot of increases. I am going to move it this summer so it will not take over the bed it is in. It is more purple than the photo shows.

Too bad, other than the wrong beard color, the rest almost looks like it. I always wanted Deep Dark Secret, it's that contrasting beard that makes it so striking!
It's about time I share a glimpse into my side garden. This is part of my rhododendron, azalea and camellia garden.
I lost a few rhododendrons this Summer from the drought and heat. (If we get some more rain) I may be taking another trip to the Sonoma Horticultural Nursery this Spring to find some replacements.

I'm having to decide what to do with a very vigorous iris I've had for about 30 years, if I recall correctly.
I don't remember the name, but the group has id'd it as Megabucks. It's completely taken over four
large beds. Space isn't a problem, and it's very pretty in bloom, but I'm going to have to get rid of, give
away most of it.
Okay, you all have these gorgeous huge yards, with just beautiful plantings! I am never telling anyone where my house is so as to protect my poor little yard from embarrassment.
