I don't see any yellow in the standards though on that one Bonnie. That yellow was what made me suspect it wasn't Wabash. And the beards on mine look solid gold, the Mrs. looks to have a white base with gold tips.

Sue, I know the odds are slim that your iris is this one...but it looks very similar. It has a bit of a story to it. I found it on the Iris Paridise.com website. It's called Prinzess Viktoria Luise and it's in the ATP database without any information except that it is the parent of Frivolite. Prinzess Viktoria Luise is not listed as a registered iris in the AIS database. It may be one of the early ones that never got registered. Frivolite is in the AIS database but does not list it's parentage. I don't know if there is a way to look up the person that entered Prinzess Viktoria Luise on ATP, but they might have some information about it.

The website owner might have some information too, if he speaks english. I don't remember what his name is, but someone here on ATP was familiar with him.

Anyway...the link only goes to the entire document so I'm going to post a screen capture along with the link. The fall color might not be right...it's hard to tell because of the lighting, but it has the yellow standards, the small but bushy and bright gold beard, the white rim around the fall...

If nothing else it's an interesting story of a nice historic iris!

Sherry, I believe that's it! Not only does it match, but the name is ringing a bell. Often those that I have known but long forgotten, comes back to me when someone mentions the name. This feels like one of those moments...not that I trust my moments completely, LOL.

Sherry, I like the new avatar pic! You've got great hair- mine is well over 50% white now, wish it would go all the way silver.

I've loved iris since I was a lot younger and now that I'm retired I am just starting to 'collect' them again. The first one I bought two years ago from a rummage sale and the leaves are green with purple near the rhizome. The second one (purple) was part of a gigantic clump in the church flower beds. I haven' t measured how tall it grows but it's fairly tall. When I divided them last spring and replanted them shortly thereafter they bloomed. One clump is already about two feet in diameter and it has been re-blooming since Christmas and still has several buds.
(Of course then I started shopping on the internet... Sighing! )

Hi Pat! Welcome -- and thank you for sharing your NOID's with us!!

Purple near the foliage is referred to as PBF -- purple based foliage -- and is used as part of the identification process.

Yeah -- that shopping on the internet -- lots of fun, but seductive................. Whistling

I'm glad you joined us!! Welcome!

Thank you Celia, I think that may be it, the lady I bought it from years ago had all award winners that names strikes a bell. At the time I was buying from her I didn't care about the names of them (foolish me)!!!
Again thank you very much!

Hi Pat! Your purple one is probably 'Crimson King'. It often blooms in the winter around here (santa cruz). It grows like a weed, and it's often found in abandoned gardens, as it's tough as nails. Your other Iris is lovely too!

Mary Ann, that was one of the Ameraucana chicks I raised this summer. Her name is Melody and she is much loved in her new home. I raised 4 so I could pick the 2 I liked best. I just saw her last weekend, and she's grown a magnificent black beard.

Neal, thank-you... I'm about 90% white now.. although I still think of myself as blonde (once a blonde.... always a blonde!). I met my birth mother in my 40's and I though she had beautiful white hair. I figured since I looked just like her that I'd be ok just letting it go.

Welcome to the party Pat! I agree with Sherry, I thought "Crimson King" when I saw your 2nd picture. They try to rebloom here, usually in November- some years I see some fall color, others they are frozen before blooming. But they sure put forth every effort to bloom again!

Sherry, I was a blond child, and in gray years I've gone to back to blond- at least white roots don't show much, LOL.

I was a blonde child too, Neal, but it gradually became brown as I grew older. Now that I am three score and ten I see some silver threads among the chestnut. I can see a few indoors in the light if I look for them but outdoors the silver threads shine like sun on water.
Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing?
