Looking at the satellite photos, it looks like the worst of it will be north of you, but mother doesn't pay much attention to computer models. It may drop down. The way that storm is going now, you would end up in the Midwest somewhere. If you land in Oz, we want to hear about it!

Our usual rainfall for the Month of October is 4.24 inches....

Our rainfall on Thursday alone was 5.14....

Apparently sunny days are better for me...outside, working, exercise..

On rainy days, I think it may be a good idea for me NOT to bake oatmeal cookies.....I think I have limited will power...

It's literally the calm before the storm. I think it's supposed to start raining again sometime around now.

My thermos does not keep tea hot that was made last night...hmmm, we shall see. Son has suggested having thermoses with hot soup for dinner in case power goes out and stays out. Probably a good idea.

I don't know what ever possessed Dave to think that this web page was better with the big photo at the start of it. It's awful. (No, I haven't customized my page yet.)

Ah nice day today, sun trying to peek in and breezy! Late afternoon to midnight we had a good steady drizzle so plants looked so happy today. Got some fog in the morning too. It is dry right now so it will be good dry out time for my succulents. Hoping to see more rain later as have been on forecast.

I just can't understand the ultra-conservative methods thar are used to measure precipitation. Weather.com says we had only 0.03 inches of rain yesterday, but it actually was enough to fill all of the outdoor cat dishes and one-third of my wheelbarrow.

Also, it says we'll have wind from the SSW at 20 mph today. I was outside a few minutes ago and had to hang on to a deck post for a short time because I was afraid the wind would literally knock me over.

On a different note, I suspect the winter won't be very cold because my cats are not growing much of a winter coat this year.

Zuzu, It all depends on where their official rain gauge is located. A few years ago I would have sworn they had a bird nest on top of their gauge for Santa Ana, but normally I'm in a dry hole while it rains all around me. I blame Catalina island for breaking it up, because it is straight across from me when the rain comes from the west. LOL!. I have my own rain gauge. Sadly, it's under utilized.

I am monitoring our weather here, so far in our area mild and nice, I really welcome the rain we got last night. And no rain for today yet, hoping for some a bit later.

Then monitoring typhoons on the other side of the globe at my homeland, they currently got one that is at CAT 3 or 4 strength, still ongoing, and not far behind another typhoon is also coming, that other one a bit more worrying. I don't like it when they talk about possible super typhoon strength on this second one, reminds me of that terrible Typhoon Haiyan. This last quarter of the year, typhoons are just much stronger. Hope that second one fizzles out somehow.

Hi, I'm baaaack. Got caught up in other stuff, but have been getting rid of failing annuals, cutting a few things back, and watered yesterday. Now I read about whatever this "rain" thing is. Water falling from the sky, you say? Don't know anything about that. I did wear a light weight sweater Wednesday, because I had to get dressed fairly early - and by the time I got home at 2:00 I couldn't wait to get into a tank top instead.

My much anticipated Siam Tulips never bloomed. Lots of green stuff which is now dying back. Maybe next year. I still haven't started moving the cordylines and centaurea from the north facing side so they are enjoying warm shade right now. Much work to do. Glad to get back here.

We went hiking yesterday. It is so incredibly dry. There was at least an inch of dust on the trail. Plants that normally have some green on them at this time of year have gone completely dormant and this was on the mild side (ocean side) of the Santa Monica Mountains. One of the bush mallows went dormant while still in bud. The laurel sumacs are not setting seed. What few walnuts there were were tiny. The plants looks like they are suffering. If the drought keeps up, I'm afraid it will change the whole ecosystem.

Our month-to-date rainfall is 9.44 inches....and if I can remember back that far (2 weeks ago), that's all come in the last 4 days....twice our usual amount.

I would like for today to be dry, but won't push it.....

At this point, I'd almost be happy with 9.44 inches for the year.

I woke up at 3:30AM and it was raining pretty steady! It was still raining when I got up at 5:15. However, by the time I was done with my morning toilette, it was done, so I didn't really get to enjoy it. We only got a quarter inch.

What's even more amazing is that I've got about 35 ga off the back half of my roof in the rain barrels. Glad I was being optimistic last Fri. and cleaned them. It's drizzling a bit again, and I'm just grateful I'm not on a freeway with the idiots.
