I realized this last weekend that I no longer get that thrill from the rain.....I'm glad to have it, but have come to expect it...some of the fun is gone....we will have some more today and maybe tomorrow also....

Any little bit is a major event here. Of course, we are back under fire watch from tomorrow night through the rest of the week.

I understand how you feel Sherry. When I was in Manila this June, it was fun to see rain again after our super dry Cali weather..but as it started to escalate to daily torrential rain, the fun is gone, especially when it causes horrendous traffic and flash floods.

But I enjoyed this weekend, drizzle here and there...plants looked so happy!

Beautiful here, some sun, some sprinkles...absolutely nothing at our place took a hit, but many trees down, much power out, etc....so much to do...inside? Outside? make more cookies?

Since the rain started last Thursday, portions of Del Norte County have gotten 15 inches with some isolated spots receiving 20"...guess I need a rain gauge. I can tell you that we've gotten a LOT....and nothing blown away...didn't faze my green beans and snow peas, everything out there is really happy. It's STILL raining......

We started chilly at 48F, sun is out now, nice blue skies, breezy and dry. No rain here, just what my plants need as it adjusts to the cooler weather.

City trees looks so happy and green, so it will probably delay now falling leaves, they had a good drink over the weekend. My oncidium orchids are likewise enjoying the weather, flower spikes developing nicely, so hopefully I will have nice blooms this winter. Smiling

We got another couple of hours of fine rain yesterday. Didn't add to my gauge but the plants are happier, and rain barrels fuller. Supposed to heat up tomorrow so shade cloth will go back on the orchid shack and pots will have to be watered. I just planted my snow peas three days ago, so hoping things will cool by the time they sprout

Currently at 57F here, nice and cool, calm winds.
Watching the other side of the Pacific, that Super Typhoon Haima, which is called locally in my homeland as Lawin is expected to make landfall later today at the northernmost part of the islands at CAT 5 strength. Sad

Mother Nature's temperamental fury at its worst about to be seen once more.

Prayers for the Philippines, Tarev.

It is very windy. The train sounds like it is on the next street, not several miles away. We have a saying that is very accurate. 'If you can hear the train, it isn't going to rain.'

Thanks Kelli.

Will do some gardening later, pulling out some bulbs and moving some of my other succulents in its place. Got to take advantage of this comfy nice weather, and start pulling in some of the cold sensitive ones indoors.

There it is Typhoon Haima made its landfall. Now to wait and see what is actually happening. Weather Channel reports 140mph winds so it is at CAT 4 when it hit land. Will see how our local news networks report there. I saw a twitter video footage from a veteran weather chaser and it is really hitting hard. Thankful for social media at this time, sometimes it is our only brief window to see what is actually going on there.

There is a very different mind set here in far northwestern California than I've been raised with and used to being around all of my life....and I'm sure that I would find that to be true in the many diverse areas of our country. There are probably no more polarizing subjects than religion and politics and I think it is to the credit of everyone who belongs to this large, diverse group of gardeners...and Dave's oversight...that we find commonality rather than picking away at our differences.....thank you.

I saw a video footage uploaded in twitter. I have never experienced a Signal No. 5, during my time in the Phils our strongest typhoon Signal is up to Signal No. 3 then. They have changed it recently in view of the changing intensity of typhoons these past few years.

From the footage, as Typhoon Haima was making landfall in Isabela, eerie howling winds and that type of rainfall where it goes in slanted any which way direction. Glide your mouse to the video and click on the speaker to hear the winds. God bless the people there, it will be a lot of damage for sure when daybreak comes about.

I hope your family will be all right, Tarev.

They are calling for a high of 95F. That means it will be pushing 100F at my house. Thumbs down It was already 76F at 6AM. It is still windy. There is a group on Facebook called I Hate Summer. I am an active member.

Chilly morning start here, right now at 52F.

Thanks Kelli, my family is safe they are in the southern part of Luzon. The brunt of the typhoon hit the northern part. Whole day yesterday I was trying to get updates, nothing posting, understandably communications were down. But finally got some news updates trickling in slowly last night and a bit more this morning. I think reports are getting out by satellite phones only, all mobile lines are down and there is widespread power outage as expected. I was asking a friend if she got a hold of her mom, I know they hail from that part of Luzon, a few miles from the landfall area, and so far the last time they got hold of her mom was at the onset of the typhoon, and after that nothing more. So we are just hoping her mom is safe.

Glad that typhoon is out of the country already, time for the people to pick up the pieces. But it is still early, landslides and flash floods still an ongoing threat with that huge amount of rainfall they got there, rivers are swollen and lots of blocked off roads. It was eerie watching some videos that made it for upload last night, you can just hear the people recording the video praying for it to stop already. These last quarter of the year typhoons are just so destructive.

Aww sorry to hear about your heat wave there. I think we will just be in the low 80's later.

I saw this video online, as the Philippines had its ongoing problems with Typhoon Haima, Hong Kong is also battling their excessive monsoon rains, flash flooding at its worst indeed.
https://youtu.be/cbOm8vJP5KQ

Good luck to them, as Haima heads a bit near them, it will surely intensify their already excessive rains. Our miseries here in Cali looks so trivial now, it reminds me we are still getting off rather well in spite of our super long dry season and occasional excessive heat spells. Got to count our blessings!

At this time of year, all I have to do is turn on the news to be grateful I live here.
Only 95 in the orchid shack so far, but only 11% humidity, even after wetting/misting. I was surprised though that we did get our "marine layer" last night, as everything was dripping when I got up. Very little wind here.

hehehehe...just went to Grocery Outlet and as I'm walking out, there's an older (lol, "older"...probably my age) and, and he just has to talk...he's never been there before...WM is just too big...Safeway just too expensive...he REALLY likes G.O. I told him that he needs to stop by every day and if he sees a good deal, to get all that he can, because he may not see it again....and he holds up these 5 bags of Moth Orchids , and beaming, says that he got them for $4.99 and he will come back and get them in every color.

I expect that when he got home, his wife said...'That's nice, dear....did you get the MILK?'

Those were most likely the dyed Phals. that, should they survive, will all be white when they next bloom. I shudder every time I see them.
