Nice reds!
My old records show my Minerva as C. loddigesii 'Blue Sky' x C. bowringiana so it's possibly the same one if they decided the bowringiana is a coerulea after I bought it. You would have to ask to be sure.
Elaine, some growers will smile knowingly when you ask why some Max tenuifolia bloom nicely, while another one sets next to it, yet never shows any inclination to bloom. They will tell you that some are simply duds!
I love the Frances Fox!
Jim, surely you saw the outrageous picture of the Dendrobium speciosum TedM posted in the I just bought thread/March 21. You need a truck for your Den spectabile!

Jim has a truck, Ursula. He's going to need a bigger one pretty soon for that Den though, I'm thinking.
Yes, weird thing with the Maxillaria is the one not blooming was the first one I got, and it bloomed nicely for 2 years, then stopped. My mother would say it is "resting on its laurels". Lots of good looking foliage, though.
Thanks on Frances, it was more orange and golden last time it bloomed so we'll see what this one does, if the flower thrips will just leave it alone. Here's what it looked like last year.

Oh I see, it THEN turned into a dud!!
I recently gave a large Max picta away, it only grew and grew and after many years never ever showed me any signs that it might bloom one day. I went to the Winter Orchid Show and there is Glen Decker looking happy with a row of small pots ridiculously in full bloom on his sales table. I asked him about his conditions, it was very similar to mine. It seems I had a major dud taking up space, trying to look cute. I gave it away in the hope it might wake up in someone's else place under totally different conditions from mine.
The flowers bloom deep down in the foliage and I never see them half the time. I haven't seen the setigera bloom in a couple of years but I just may have missed it.
I also have a Mcv. Frances Fox 'Sunspots'. It always looks delicate like it's about to croak but blooms every year. I wish I could see some good growth on it.

Glad to hear Frances is a wimpy plant for you too. Mine grew exactly one leaf last year, but hey, it bloomed!
Yes, the Maxes do have those blooms down in the leaves, but you can't miss the fragrance of tenuifolia. I might have missed these but for the scent this morning. Amazing. I love that setigera, too. Pretty little flower.

My Maxillaria tenuifolia is still in lala land right now..but last year it was in bloom in May..the other year around late Feb to early March..it just varies.
I'm back from the orchid meeting ribbonless but at least I tried. I have to get caught up on some bloomers:
First is a new one and I am now up to date on the name : (Oncidopsis [Oip.] Yokara X Oncidium [Onc.] Fort Point) X Bratonia [Brat.] Memoria Donald Christian. Had I known the name would be this complicated, I would have passed.
I probably should have put this Aerangis [Aergs.] punctata in the anticipation thread because the flowers have not fully opened yet but I promise to post again when all is open:
Dendrobium [Den.] primulinum is blooming:
Another one of my little Phals., Sogo Gotris (Phal. Be Tris x Phal. Sogo Manager) is in bloom.
Encyclias ( naranjapatensis x alata), is really opening up now.
The sponge orchid (aka. Vaughnara [Vnra.] Fiftieth Anniversary) seems happy as a clam. I wonder if the sponge holds salt?
Finally the newly acquired Onc. Tiger Brew x (Onc. spacetante x Onc. Rememberance)

Jim, at least that Whattheheckia Mem. Donald Christian has a really beautiful pattern!
I wonder if the Aerangis punctata is one of those Aerangis which take weeks to open a spike.
I always like the delicate pattern on Den. primulinum.
Nice blooms!
I could imagine that the sponge might hold salt, but wouldn't you see that eventually?

A new abbreviation for Ursula's new orchid name Whthk? Or just Wth? See, it took you all longer than me but aren't we all getting a little tired of the stupid name changes? At this point it really seems like the boffins are just entertaining themselves.
Lovelies all, Jim but the color on Den primulinum is just sublime, and I really love Tiger Brew. Wait! Isn't there a Chinese beer named that??
As to the sponge holding salt, if Jim's dunking that baby in fresh water once in a while, I'd think all the salt is long gone.

all I can say is absolutely gorgeous! I only have the common noid varieties.
My sis in law was in Singapore and they went to the National Orchid Garden earlier this month and sent me these gorgeous photos.
I was there over 15 years ago and I remember it was beautiful but not as gorgeous as this display of various different colors. I must have gone before the full blooming season.,I remember the airport was decorated with beautiful orchids too.
I know. I want to go back there again. Even Singapore's Airport is decorated by orchids, If I remember correctly oRchid is their national flower or something.
Two is better than one?
The little Aerangis citrata opened the second spike and there are now two blooms on the Pleione formosana.
And the Blc Hawaiian Green Valley x Rhyncholaelia digbyana 'Laura' opened the first of two buds. The lip needs to unfurl a bit more.
