It is going to get downright chilly here this weekend. Lows near 50 F and highs in the 70's. I'll have to take a windbreaker into the game Saturday night. It is supposed to be in the upper 50's at the end of the game (11:00-midnight). My orchids will just have to suck it up. Far too early to be moving anything inside. Sighing!

Dry as a bone here. We were supposed to have thunderstorms for six hours, but the forecast changed overnight. I need it to stay dry. I have carpenters and cement finishers on the job and I want them to get as much done as possible.

We average about 65" per year. Lack of rain is usually not a problem for us here.

We got almost 2" today. That was good for some of the new fall plantings. It seemed to cool things down some. One more day of rain is predicted from a cool front then it's supposed to cool down, drop in humidity and feel like fall this weekend. It's too bad I am out of town for it. I hope it sticks around through next week at least?

since my last report in July we've been watching the hurricanes roll by. One to the south, two to the north of the island. As a result we get plenty of heavy rain and VERY HUMID conditions. This has been the most uncomfortable summer since we move here 22 years ago. Fans and airconditioners all sold out. We have been lucky this last couple of days. Honolulu took the worst of the weather. Typical trade winds should return early next week. Today will be humid, south easterly winds with the potential for heavy showers. Our local town, Hilo, has broken heat records many times in the last month. Upper 80s - low 90s.

We love the tradewinds for keeping us cool and bringing those night time showers but for now the tradewinds are carrying more moisture. Sunday rained all day, yesterday was showers and today has rained all day. Should be like this for the rest of the week. We live in the rainiest spot on the island so probably is not raining in most places. Its what keeps our rainforest green and growing.

Yep, just saw it on our weather page. Thanks for the concern. Won't be a problem for us at 2200ft but last time we had a quake in Chile the water came up over the roads and into stores in Kailua Kona. The water in Hilo bay went back and forth like a bath tub and the part of the harbor on Maui left some fish high and dry. This time it will arrive at night so not so visual. Have to wait for our early morning news. Hopefully it will not happen. For now its just a watch.

We do have flood warnings and advisories up for the South and West sides of the island. Yesterday Kailua Kona was hit with rain coming down at almost 4 inches an hour. Lots of local flooding on roads. Some roads are closed again this afternoon with another round of heavy showers.
No big organised storms in the area, just heavier than normal showers.

El Nino has really messed up our weather.

One more nice day today starting at 58F, just expecting low 80's. We were hoping for some rain last night, but it missed us, we got the windy cool side of it . But that's okay, there was rain instead towards the burn areas so it will help with the ongoing wildfire.

tarev ...

I think I got the rain you were hoping for yesterday. We had a light rain all day long, starting before sunrise and well into the night.

Bliss. Everything looks so bright and green today. I love the smell of the earth after the first rain of the season. There's nothing like it.

Day temp was a high of 51F, but now we are headed up to the low 90s by Saturday. No rain forecasted. Perfect weather for fall chores.

How far away are you from the fires ? All of the big fires up here were on the other side of the mountain, so I only had to deal with smoke all summer.

Lyn, we are quite far from it since we are at the edge of Central Valley area. Just sad to hear about the ongoing devastation there in the fire zones.

It was interesting to hear from one of the local weather forecasters this morning that there was snow at Squaw Valley brought about by the rains yesterday, even though it was brief, it surely is nice to see on tv at this time of the year.

Tarev ....

It is so very sad to read about the ongoing devastation.

I cannot tell you how differently I feel about wildfires now that I live in a natural wildfire area. You may not have even heard about the fires in TC.

Good to know you are safe.

Back to weather ... last year we had over 2" of rain in September. I wonder what's going to happen this year.
