Really Beautiful blooms for August everyone! You are all such GREAT Orchid growers! Each time I view photo's on this forum I find myself grabbing a pen and paper to write down names ... my "Wish List" is getting longer and longer by the day!

I have one measly bloom right now. I haven't had this one very long as I just bought the plant in April. I'm still very much the novice grower and not sure if I'm listing the name correctly here. I'd have to refer back to notes to remember what the Bc. and E. stand for LOL, but I think this is how the label for this plant reads:

Encyleyvola Surprise (Bc. Binosa 4n x E. plicata var. alba):

Bc is a Brassavola X Cattleya which is called a Brassocattleya
E is Encyclia
So they crossed a Bc, with an E which resulted in a Encyleyvola

Me neither but that's the truth as I know it. Very nice bloom also.

LOL, Thanks Jim ... I know I won't remember all of that 5 minutes from now, Big Grin With all the long and sometimes strange names I'm forever having to refer back to my notes or info here on the forum.

I am so grateful to Kathy for having such a wonderful and informative Orchid forum, and to all of you great growers for sharing your tips!

I found a spike on Lc. Edgard Van Belle x C. Intermedia x Blc. Magic Meadow today and look forward to the blooms. I lost a lot of labels (and entire plants) to squirrels or some other critters a few years ago but was able to re-identify this one when it bloomed last year and earlier this year. I will post a picture when the buds open.

LOL! Some of the growers don't register their crosses, so I just list them as I see them on the tag, as you did with the spike you just mentioned. Kathy does have a list of what all those letters mean on Cubits. Thumbs up

Carol, I have seen the list on the orchid cubit. I love the ability to reach the Orchid database from here on ATP, wonder if Kathy can put a link to the terms etc. here on ATP too, or better yet, have it as a *sticky*.

I haven't been taking any pics due to the constant breeze here, and not many subjects, but today I rearanged a couple to take advantage of a lull.
