Heres a rare species-''Pinktin ense var Steelstem''-has only been known to grow, alongside 'lily show advertising signs'-on a major highway in the northern suburbs of Sth Tasmania, around December...Then the day after the lily show it just'disappears',as if it was never there Confused Hilarious!

I think it is one of those pollenless types. Or maybe someone cut the anthers off so people won't get pollen on their clothes. Love all those spots, aren't they cute?

It also might be:

Lilium enormum maximum

Lilium sexum pseudo-arachnoideum

Lilium roseo-album maculatum

-- (who would have thought that there is no word for "pink" in Latin?)

Lilium mancini-panthera var. maculatum

Or maybe it's the famed Purple People Eater.
-- Does it fly?

Hmmmm.... I can see picking the petals and using each one for a fish lure. Maybe doctor each up a little so each is different from the others. Surely the fish would be tricked into trying one of them! Green Grin! Six feet Confused Confused . That would make each lure about three feet. Oh, this all hurts my brain!!!!

Congratulations on L. callosum, Anthony.

That flower is about the same size as my first flowers from seed. But they should be double that (or maybe more?) when they mature. Trying to get seed from your baby will be very stressful on the plant, especially in your heat. The species is native to Siberia and points north across Eurasia. Obviously, it doesn't get that warm there. For reasons I'll not go into, my ten seedlings were still all crammed into a small 3.5 x 5 inch pot when they bloomed, so they didn't have the best of care.

I used the pollen from my plants, but I didn't pollinate them. I had transplanted them the bulbs that fall, but still, less than half of them bloomed the next season.

Pictures of species? how about pictures of Henryi seedlings[all 30 of them] after they took a terrible fall from the top of my recycle bin[4ft] in extreme winds today.. I think the picture of Anthony, with steam extruding from his ears would have been better, or the non- editing of words would have been quite rude..then the throwing of this.. and the kicking of that Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Delicate re-planting and re configuration of the brain cells .... and I dont think I lost any....Oh man alive, I wonder at times.. Calm down now. Its too bad casual gardeners dont know the frustration you go thru you are so devoted to the lilies,I just know it will be OK..
Hope your seedlings do OK.I dont mess with that part of lilies . It takes a more nurturing spirit I guess.

I'll bet it was hard getting all 30 back in the same pot though. If they're all from last Spring, they all should be just fine, Anthony. I hate wind!

Anthony, I spilled three in the doorway here when the wind caused my coat pocket to snag on the latch of the storm door a couple years ago. I guess if you do a lot of seeding, odds are something is going to happen every now and then--we just roll with the punches, right?

Oh Anthony... there's a bright side too.
You got to space them eavenly in the pot... if they were not. Smiling
OK....a guessing game.
I got these bulbs last June when I was in Sweden. I planted the bulbs, didn't give them much chance (in the hottest and driest time!).
But, here they are. I'd like to know what they could be!

And...
I am not sure, these could be some species (forgot) but, what happened to them? These are the only ones that seem really damaged. And they all look like are the same type.

Regarding your first question:"what are these" - we'll never be able to tell unless you have any more information. There are many types with that leaf formation.
Do you remember what the bulbs looked like? See here and maybe you can pick out a like bulb.
allthingsplants.com/thread/view/4020/Species-Lily-Bulbs/

Were the bulbs expensive compared to other lilies?

Regarding the ugly lilies, whatever has happened, it's pretty drastic. If weather hasn't played a part, my best guess is that the bulbs rotted. Have you dug any up to see what is happening underground?

Sure looks like they rotted to me, also. Did these get too wet late last Fall? What kind of soil you have Calin? It looks like you need to work in some more compost and sand, etc.
