Thanks for the welcome, everyone.

Us here in da UP know how to pronounce Canuck, eh?

Loved the new version of the 12 days of Christmas, even if they had to change the pronunciation to make it work in the song ! Just a little "artistic license."

We need a Yooper version (maybe there already is one and I just don't know about it) -- it would certainly include pasties, and probably beer -- oh, and smelt... Rolling on the floor laughing

David, do you mean "Da Yoopers" ? they brought us such great songs as "2nd day of deer camp" and "rusty Chevrolet" -- but I don't think they did a "12 days..."

Here's a version by some more Canadians, Bob and Doug McKenzie https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
I'm pretty sure a Yooper version would involve more beer...

Oh yes - aren't the McKenzie brothers the original Hoseheads?

Yeah - I love Da Yoopers when I lived in MI. Them and the drunk Polish guys from Hamtramck (sp?) singing the shaving cream song.

Wow, haven't been here for awhile and was AWOL from DG for awhile last week too - just when they implemented the changes. What a mess they've made this time. Like many of you, I've stayed over there only for a certain group of friends. I've not learned anything about gardening for a long time. And this summer when my subscription is up, I won't be paying up again. Actually, I was tracking the number of subscribers in the weekly newsletter for over a year until about a year ago and in went down steadily, losing 1/3 of its base in that year. I predicted there would be virtually no subscribers by around this time, but they stopped publishing the number of subscribers.

Hi, Ann, I'm glad to see you over here. Personally, I think the whole Coffee and.... gang should move here!

Pirl, that's a sad total. I am wishing I had not resubscribed, especially since the changes which they dumped on us last week without warning, and are very slow to remedy so that they actually work. The only reason I stay there is to keep up with a few friends.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Hello - everyone - I am just peeking in to see where everyone has gone. I participate in the Chair thread mostly on DG and will stick there until the bitter end. But this is a lovely site and very agreeable. Hope I don't make anyone mad by joining both groups.

Pirl - I was shocked by your statistics about subscribers - 1,149. No wonder Admin at DG doesn't care - the small fee is useless to them. I guess their money comes from advertising and since so many subscribers block the ads, any leverage they might have had is lost.

Thanks for letting me look in.

Hi @blakelyatstillwood Welcome!

No one here will be upset at all that you have joined both sites. Many of us here on ATP are former members at DG and a few folks continue to visit both sites because they have friends in both places and it's understandable that those who participate in the non-gardening forums on DG would want to continue their participation on those forums but for anything and everything gardening related http://garden.org/ is the VERY BEST! You won't find drama or discord here like is found on other sites. We have the kindest, friendliest and most helpful gardeners from around the globe right here in our ATP community. We also have the best and most up to date Plant Database ever! If you are into gardening, I'm pretty sure that before long you will find this to be your favorite site for anything plant/garden related! Again, Welcome!

Welcome @blakelyatstillwood
I wonder how long it will be until advertisers bail out.

Give them their credit: they work very hard to keep the numbers low. It means fewer people can complain. Can you imagine if they had over 7,000 (as they did years ago) how many complaints they would have had just in the last week?

Mary - I stayed for a long time waiting for friends to come over and now there's just one person, my dahlia buddy, Dan, remaining. He has seen the light so I expect him here any day. My last DG day is 12/29 and I just might post, for the first time since April, to "Bump" my thread asking if avatars could be made optional. I began that thread April 19, 2013 and it never was resolved because the Admin. said, "...I'm not sure I can make a good argument for them being a distraction unless we're also advocating that we take away all thumbnails...", so the problem was never addressed to the very people who might be capable of making it happen.

Contrast that with Dave. When my friend, Zuzu, asked Dave if the avatars and emoticons could be made optional it was done that day!

Like others, I wanted to stay to the bitter end to see which of the two Admin's would turn off the light but I've been assured that day won't happen so I won't waste time and money waiting for it to happen.
