Okay, I corrected the name for S. heuffelii 'Water Lily' in our database.

Tim, they are all sempervivum now. There is a Sempervivum 'Waterlily' without any specie name because it is a cross, so not a species.
Then there is .
Sempervivum heuffelii 'Water Lily'. Using the specie name of heuffelii since it is not a cross of species.
There is no longer Jovibarba, it was absorbed into Sempervivum.

Hope I am making sense?

springcolor said:My understanding is they are all classified as sempervivum. We still have them divided in the database. Can't remember the reasoning on that but it was good. Wish I could find where we talked about this.

They're all genus Sempervivum? Or species Sempervivum?
I think genus... and the two species Sempervivum and Heuffelii are distinct.
I hope so, cuz it does seem logical. I don't claim to know. Kevin told me to read his upcoming book and then I'll know as much as he does... as if.

Tim,

The latest taxonomic revision puts all of the Sempervivum and former Jovibarba into Sempervivum. They did retain two sections of the genus so the former Jovibarba are in the Jovibarba SECTION now.

The cultivars are mostly a mix so it's just S. 'Lipstick'. An exception would be ones from a single species such as S. calcareum 'Extra'.

All of the heuffelii cultvars are derived from a SINGLE SPECIES. Thus, they can be designated S. heuffelii 'Hot lips'. This will also clear up the cultivar names for which we have both a heuffelii and semp with same name. These would be written as S.'Jade' and S. heuffelii 'Jade'.

Hope that makes it clear!

Kevin

Snow in the northern Willamette Valley. Not seen for a couple years. Feel free to laugh at us but it gets us kind of excited around here. Some pitiful attempts to show what is actually a solid downpour of snow, which alas will not accumulate.

Man I'm glad it missed us here south of Salem. Imagine the traffic problems! Tuesday night is forecast to be very cold here, 23F. That is cold enough to perk me to cover the house vents this morning.

Hilarious! you guys

It's winter here too with that snow stuff and single digit temps--I feel for you Chris!
I threw in a few baby evergreens kinda late in Nov and Crossing Fingers! they've had enough of a chance to settle in. Asa says we have good snow cover down there, so I'm hoping they'll do alright.

okay, that's really a cat portrait, but you can see a little broom known as 'Cherokee Park' on the left--if you click on it that is

Yup, all hunkered down inside! Don't go out any more than I have to.

Dirt, that's a beautiful portrait of your cat! Did you take it? 'Cherokee Park' is sure a sweetie. Love evergreens - especially when they're covered with snow. Smiling

26F this morning and sunny... brrr. Freezing rain and snow on the roads tomorrow and I have appointments up the valley then. The weather guys are saying to stay home if you can... roads will be slick. Grumbling I'm not in the mood for road hockey.

The gravel fluffed up overnight with the freezing and is now settling back in the thawing sunshine. I can just sit there and watch it happen. When I first saw it I thought some creepy things were crawling around in my semp gravel. Hilarious!

Mr. 'C' taking it all in stride.
