Oh my goodness Kathy! I did a double take on the date ... thinking I clicked on some older thread! Wow, 36ºF??? That's COLD! Are temp's that low unusual for y'all this time of year? We are still in the mid 70's at night and I'd love to see a cool down!

Actually, the weather folks said I bet you think that's unusual for September, but it's not. Parts of the midwest will have frost so I feel lucky! I'm thinking of not watering my vandas and throwing a towel over that end with a tarp over all of them. Not watering the cyms and letting them get cold.

Yikes, where did Summer go!!! We are supposed to go down to 49 F.
I will start this weekend to bring my plants in. I treated the whole cage a couple of days ago with Bayers Rose and Flower care, and today did the whole C& S collection.

Very nice, Kathy. I had to "restart" my Maiden Charlotte, it looked really crappy last year, more keikis than old plant underneath.
I need some time here to take pictures; with the girls starting preschool, my schedule has changed.

I know! I am so busy that taking pics is low on the list!
Looks like 39-41F Friday AM. I will not water tomorrow AM, bring in the budded ones, and tarp the rest.

Brrrr. But they will be fine tarped for a night.
Those floods we had here did cause a bit of black-rot on a couple of small Cattleyas. Did some surgery today and dusted with Cinnamon. Hopefully that's it.

Hi, folks! No photos but the orchids at the Botanical Gardens that I care for, not that many, really, are starting to bloom a lot, I'll post some photos soon.

I just want to COMPLAIN!! A Home Depot just opened here on my little island, and they have a display of lovely white and majenta Phalanopsis that have been dyed turquoise and purple. They are so awful looking! At least the tag does say that they will be their natural color the next time they bloom... I bet nobody buys them. Smart orchid lovers here on St. Croix.

We've all seen at least pictures of the "blue" Phals, but why would anyone dye a Phal. purple? There are tons of naturally purple ones on the market.
As to HD...welcome to our world! We all complain about it. LOL! At least now you can pick up things you need without having to pay shipping. May not be the best quality though.
I miss your chat on the Desert rose forum. Did you finaly get your internet back?

Turquoise (and purple) Phals? Oh boy!!!

Kathy, how are you this morning?
It was 46 F this morning on my deck, but the cage was/still is flooded in sunshine.
I took a few Orchids inside yesterday evening, I had only about an hour to do so before it started to rain again and it was getting dark. I am so glad we had moved the Gouramies inside on Sunday, they would have been really in trouble.

The purple Phals are the 'magenta' colors, naturally, dyed a very dark royal purple, like a dark purple petunia color. I figure guys are buying them for their wives? I saw them when I first went in the door, I thought they were plastic, from a distance.

Carol, I yakk a lot on the Adenium forum here on All Things Plants. I also started a thread about some seeds I started, now it's time to start transplanting them to roomier trays.

The thread "Babies to adults" in Adeniums forum

I'll have to take a "before" photo of the Orchid House here at the Botannical Gardens where I care for the orchid collection, it's totally stuffed with ferns and a super extra gigantic ginger. The Manager finally said to do some chopping in there. No room for anything right now.

I did fine at 42 with the shade cloth and tarp. Tonight is a bigger test.
