That blue in the standards kind of messes with the camera. I wonder if it would look the same taken with film?

Even with the rain and wind, the irises keep opening.

Mondsee, an AB. Prolific grower and bloomer.

Chain Reaction, an AB by Rick Tasco.
It should be a little taller, but close.

Pink Kitten, an IB by Vern Wood. Vern loved pink iris.

These next two opened in spite of the wind and rain last night.

Sizzle, an AB

I think that 'Sizzle' was from Fred Gadd here in New England.

Thanks, Neal. Sometimes it's hard shooting the iris in the front yard. The photo of Mondsee with the blue background is in front of the neighbors big blue garbage toter. Sometimes it's the street in the background or a fence. A little cropping with Picasa and they look OK.
I try to make the iris the focal point, but try hard to be faithful to the color.
Carl

Does Comfortable have 2 stalks growing from 1 fan? I've never seen that happen that I can recall...

I've had a few grow that way and seen quite a few more over the years. It seems to be associated with 'pineappleing' of the foliage.
The general consensus is that it is climatic in origin.
That makes sense because some years it is bad and some years not so much.

I too have seen multiple stalks from one rhizome on rare occasions. Some times the blooms are OK, and other times they are "Oddities".

I have a few particular cultivars that seem prone to multiple stalks, and most of them are classed as "re bloomers"........not really sure if that means anything, or is just chance.

Don't worry Liz, ours will be blooming into the summer. The ISM show is May 30 at Harvey Wheeler in concord 1 to 4 pm. Mark the calendar. I usually work at the information table at the door.. Little old lady with grey hair.
