Robin, at this point you can mark it as a 5-star item. I think that gives you first dibs when trading opens?

thanks SSG. Can you point me to the link where I can do this? (sorry I have not been tracking everything--seems like the only time I can get online anymore is weekends...)

I posted a few items I have on our seed swap list. Alpine Catchfly for Jill a couple years ago, and Kalimersis Pinnalifida that I got at a swap, I don't remember form whom. Also two Caryoptersis 'Worchester Gold' and some noid catnip.

I joined this swap on ATP but I guess I didn't post on this thread that I would like to come. I plan to bring my friend Ellenora, who lives in Finksburg MD, so I will stop to pick her up on the way. Maybe I'll ask her to make the food (she's a great cook). I'll bring the plants, she brings the food--that's a plan!

I already listed some offers on the database. Mostly they will be tomato seedlings. In the column on the left I listed a particular tomato variety, but the offer is really for a category, i.e. "yellow/gold heirloom beefsteak" in the row where "Kellogg's Breakfast" is named. If you are interested in a particular variety within that category, just ask--I may have already planted that variety. This explanation is also in the comments section of the listings.

My daughter and I sell plants at outdoor markets in the spring, so I have started over 80 varieties of tomato plants so far! I can't list them individually on this database! Darned that Carolyn Male and her heirloom tomato book, which got me started on this heirloom tomato hobby! Unfortunately, our customers at the NJ outdoor markets are mostly interested in what they grew as children, i.e. "Big Boy" etc., not heirlooms.

Sorry if this rambling should be on a chat thread.

SSG, I don't think that marking something a 5star gives any sort of 'dibs' on a plant...as the tool as set up now only gives each participant 2 requests from their 'wish list' on the first day trading is open. So, first come first served. If Catmint isn't first to click on Gelsenium at start of trade, she won't get your plant. And, if you wish to reserve Gel for Catmint then you should probably take it off your tade list and keep track of what you have promised to others (parsley! for me) defeating the record keeping nature of the tool! We can't see what is on anyone else's wish list.

If you look at my sample listings, I have tried to incorporate a way of listing a plant and marking it RESERVED and for whom.

Personally, I feel we should have our traditional Haves and Wants thread andthen see how and in what ways the Swap tool is useable/useful

Denise, I'm looking forward to meeting you! (Unless we've met at a previous swap? Sorry, I'm terrible with names. Sticking tongue out )

Catmint, did you find it using Mariposa's link?

I do think the unedited tool is cumbersome, because it's tailored for seeds, not plants.

Thanks for the tips, Mariposa!

Heya! Sorry to have missed some chat here... science fair was today. Smiling

Nisi, glad you and Elleanora will be here! Rick, looking forward to meeting you, too.

Yep, swap trading via the "seed swaps tool" starts tomorrow... no worries if you're not ready at the opening bell.

I think we should give the trading tool a try, because the record keeping aspect of it is really easy... it seems simple enough (if awkward) to pretend it says "plants" rather than "seeds" and put a description of the size/type of plant being offered (seedling, cutting, bare root division, etc) in the "number of seeds per packet" field.

That said, if you want to put a post in the "haves and wants" thread where you can make notes for things you can't easily track using the tool, that makes sense. You can do have & want lists as we used to do, too... although I do think it might get confusing if you try to list offers both on a thread and using the tool.

We can chat away on this thread... threads on ATP can get really long without affecting loading (design improvement over DG). I'll catch up later and get everybody added to the list at the top.

Trading via the "Seed Swaps" tool starts after midnight tonight! If you don't sign up for the swap before trading starts, you can still "join the swap" using the tool -- BUT you will have to tell me, and I'll tree-mail Dave, and he'll add you manually.
We're all learners, doers, teachers.

You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

I'm looking for maidenhair fern. Is it truly perennial in 7a?

David, chickweed? There's obviously a backstory to this. Sticking tongue out

SSG - yes there is a back story. Also, Northern Maidenhair is hardy zones 2 to 8. Mine have been happy here (first pic below) and are emerging despite the cold nights (second pic). I may have some to spare by swap time.
