The sky is getting really black and thunder is rolling. Looks like we are going to have a nasty storm.

I hope we get another storm today. Lightning is nice at night, but not at midnight. I did get up to watch and was blinded by some pretty bright cloud to ground strikes. I was watching the neighbor's houses because those strikes start fires.

Well now the rain has turned to sleet. I'm supposed to go to the doctor today but if this weather continues I may be cancelling.

Sleet is not good. Be careful!

It's daylight that I'm burning so I better get up and get busy. That rag won't dust by itself.

Waiting for the snow to start. It seems that the track of the storm is uncertain ... we could get 5 cm or 25 cm. Crying Time will tell.

The weather guessers say rain this morning and it was cloudy when we got up but rain seems to be passing us by.
Any day you wake up on the sunny side of the grass is a good day.

They are calling for a high today of 92F. That means it will be about 95F here at the house. Anyone who wants that can have it. I miss the 60s, too.

SIGH! Was out there this morning feeding the pigglies and as I most always do I wander the gardens to see what up and what isn't . Ground is frozen solid again ( well at least on top ) but we have had so much rain and then freeze and thaws in the last few days that I have been discovering fall planted daylilies have heaved themselves out of the ground ! AGAIN!!!!!!!!! FOR THE THIRD TIME THIS WINTER!!!!!!!

I don't know if anyone else experiences this kind of thing but every year usually around January we get a wet spell and a thaw and I am out in the gardens shoving daylilies back into the ground . The heavy heavy clay soil here gets saturated and then when things thaw the frost brings the plants out of the ground with it . I have been know to be outside in my bare feet in January ( cant wear boots cuz they will just be sucked into muddy oblivion ) shoving daylilies back into the ground and then running back in the house to soak my feet in hot water and back out again . It has almost become a ritual but not always with bare feet. And definitely not 3 times in a season ( yes I know you shouldn't start a sentence with A-n-d but I am frustrated and don't care at this point ! )

This year we got no snow cover whatsoever and the freeze and thaws have repeated themselves a number of times and I have shoved daylilies back into the ground an equal number of times . So today when I went out I almost cried. There were dozens of the darn things ,sitting on top of the ground, roots all exposed AGAIN. Freezing temps and I no doubt will have a number of plant losses because of this . Why cant I win the lottery and leave this god forsaken piece of property and go find one somewhere where the plants actually stay in the ground year round........ IT'S DEFINITELY ON MY BUCKET LIST OF IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO !

Oh and to make this post legit , it is just miserably cold and windy out there ( so what else is new?)

Signet,
I thought I would see a lot of frost heave this year, but I didn't.
Third time has to be depressing.
We get January thaw and usually rain. Next year, save a few buckets of dirt from the garden. Make sure it's dry before winter sets in. It heaves, you throw some dirt on them.

Sally , thanks so much for the thought ......it is a great suggestion . I wish I could do that but with 43 gardens , I would have to fill up my basement with dry dirt . I am talking a few hundred daylililes that have heaved not just 10 or 12 . Between seedlings and named plants, I grow about 2000 + daylililes.

I think the only real solution is to only plant in spring . No more fall installed daylilies.

Signet, I am so sorry to hear of your plants heaving out of the ground. I can understand your frustration. I don't have that problem, we have a heavy snow cover so they are all well covered all winter. We get January thaws, but the ground is not exposed.
I wish I was close to you and I could help.
It is snowing today and my gardens are now totally snow covered again. About an inch on the ground, so far.

Oh Jean , how bizarre that sounds ! I wonder what pulls the plants into the ground like that ? We have some kind of worm or bug or something here that will pull a blade of grass or daylily leaf into the ground after it . I have yet to figure out what exactly does that, but I have never before heard of what you are dealing with . Maybe we should meet somewhere half way between where you live and I live and maybe just maybe the daylilies would stay where they are supposed to L0L !

Thanks to all for trying to cheer me up . I appreciate it .

Val , thanks for your offer to help ....that is really very kind of you even if you can't actually do it . It's the thought that counts .
