@mieko2, it is a lovely peony. Course most peonies are lovely but I really like the delicacy of yours.

Thank you Mary Stella and Annette. We are having big rain storms today. We need the rain, but not the wind. Hopefully this tree peony will pull through with little or no damage. It is almost 5 feet tall.

Kousa, here is your favorite pink completely open. The TP still has 7 unopened buds. Enjoy

My pink unknown tree peony opened a bloom this morning. It was closing it back up for the night when I checked on it a little while ago.

I am wondering if it the pink version of Paeonia ostii. They foliage is similar but I just don't know. It's another one bought in a cardboard box labeled pink tree peony.
I'm glad you like it, Karen. I can't wait to see pix of all your blooms, too.

I thought the same thing when I saw your pic, LG. Think it's prettier than the white! I have 3 whites and some baby seedlings, it'll be interesting to see if they all bloom the same colors.

Spring 2014 the largest of the 3 didn't put up any growth from the woody stems. I thought it'd died but was surprised to see growth from the ground. I got blooms from that new growth and they had purple flares. Here's a very closeup of one bloom. The blooms were straight white every year before and last year as well, unfortunately.

And, as always, you can see hail damaged foliage...

Is the color changing? Will it get paler with the aging of the flower?

I remember that I saw it on one of Website, it's called"Phoenix Pink", it's a pink version of the"Phoenix White". I hope this helps.

Thank you all for your help in identifying this peony. I label everything I my garden, but when they first started selling tree peonies in the USA they just put the color on the boxes. This is another one from
1992.

My tree peony also is sending up growth from the base of the plant. How long do you think it will take for it to mature enough to bloom. It was a 4-5 year old plant when I got it but it didn't fare too well last year and doesn't look to great this year. The top bark part that is. I am sure the roots are just fine.

Hi Mary Stella, it really depends on how mature the root is. An established tree peony can bloom on new growth from the ground the same season--I saw it with my Phoenix White. I think you and I in our zone will see a lot more of the woody growth loss than those in warmer zones, just a fact of life. That doesn't mean you won't see blooms, though--once your roots are well established I'll bet that you'll see blooms on new growth every year as well if the woody growth doesn't make it. Mine were in place 5 years before I saw this behavior but mine weren't 4-5 year old plants when I got them, maybe 2-3 year old at most.

All my itohs and herbaceous are up and full of buds. Getting a hard freeze tonight. I have fretted about covering etc. and finally decided you can't fight Mother Nature. She knows best. Have a great weekend.
