Me, too. It's hard to imagine going to bed one night and waking up the next morning with only the clothes on your back. I only hope those who didn't wake up did not suffer.
Any day you wake up on the sunny side of the grass is a good day.

Me too.. And what of those that did wake up under pounds of rubble.

I am sad today and my heart is heavy. My son, Alex, fell off a roof at work yesterday. He is in the hospital with a fractured skull, bruised brain and air trapped between the brain membrane and skull. He was holding a circular saw when he fell and also has a gash on his left side an inch deep and 7 inches long. No surgery called for at this time. No idea how long he will be in the hosp or when he will be able to go back to work. Right now his boys are camped out here with me...17 and 19. Please send prayers and healing vibes his way. Always something Crying Crying

Oh no. I am so sorry for your trouble Ginger. Children are so precious and no matter their age we want to help and take their burdens from them. Thank God he survived his fall and I will say a special prayer for him for a quick and complete recovery and for you and the boys to manage your worries about his recovery and livelihood until those good things happen and he is on his feet.

If work does not...do not hesitate one second to go to the hospital billing / SS department and get that paperwork started on his behalf. Do not assume that he makes too much...has too much...owns too much... Hospitals receive breaks from the govt and they must take on some cases for just what the insurance pays...OR if he is eligible for medicaid ( remember he is not working ) then they help get that started because in every case where the patients insurance does not pay all the bill ...the remainder can be evaluated to be written off....they will NEVER approach the family nor offer...the family or patient must do it. First, the patient must be proven "not eligible" for Medicaid. So either way...good info about help and what to do is collected and provided for you. Also, when evaluated for write off or even discounted services INCOME is looked at..not assets ..income...and he is not working technically. So house, car, that is not looked at.

So again, never assume that you or anybody you are helping is not eligible for patient assistance.

Rosie's right - ask to see what is covered. Taking in his family while he's injured, may be covered. I remember when my cousin's house got hit by a skunk and her daughter took them in - instead of them going to a hotel during the cleanup (covered by insurance). The insurance company paid her daughter as if she were a hotel - even sent her a dozen roses to thank her for being so good as to not over-charge!
Prayers for your son and grandsons, and you of course - how stressful! So happy he survived, it might have been worse, but you can look forward to a speedy recovery, poor boy!! (no matter the age, he's still your boy!!) Group hug
