Do not assume that he makes too much...has too much...owns too much... Hospitals receive breaks from the govt and they must take on some cases for just what the insurance pays...OR if he is eligible for medicaid ( remember he is not working ) then they help get that started because in every case where the patients insurance does not pay all the bill ...the remainder can be evaluated to be written off....they will NEVER approach the family nor offer...the family or patient must do it. First, the patient must be proven "not eligible" for Medicaid. So either way...good info about help and what to do is collected and provided for you. Also, when evaluated for write off or even discounted services INCOME is looked at..not assets ..income...and he is not working technically. So house, car, that is not looked at.
So again, never assume that you or anybody you are helping is not eligible for patient assistance.
